History has shown, however, that almost all countries' first elected female leaders are conservative. Margaret Thatcher, Sanae Takaichi, Angela Merkel, Giorgia Meloni, are just a few examples. It wouldn't surprise me if the Republican candidate at the next election is someone like Kristi Noem or Tulsi Gabbard. And if the Democrats don't pick the right candidate, it wouldn't surprise me if they win. Given the fact that Noem is currently embroiled in the ICE scandal and DHS’ approval rating is under water and Gabbard is potentially going to have a whistle blower blow the lid on her violating national security very soon, I think both would fail pretty spectacularly. Weirdly, I think Marjorie Taylor Greene post-MAGA is probably the GOP’s best shot for a female candidate in 2028. As much as I absolutely adore her and voted for her in the past, I really do not want her as the democratic candidate in the upcoming presidential election process. I support her so much and believe she would make a phenomenal first female president, but the country is clearly not ready and right now my belief is the democratic party needs to put out someone who is moderate enough to appeal to both sides. Donald Trump has f***ed this country up and we are going to suffer for years. We first need a president who can appeal to both sides while remaining rational/logical, law-abiding, and with an agenda that demonstrates they care for the country, just so that we have can get on the right course again (Like we were with Obama). Noooooooooooooooo. you have it backwards and you need to educate yourself further. playing moderates never works for democrats post 2000. we win when we push candidates who talk about social change for workers. Progressive policies actually work and you’ve got to stop buying the lie that a moderate will win. people will not vote for a moderate this time around. And why would you want a moderate? SpadesToStart 3,853
An “I told you so campaign” isn’t the flex she thinks it would be. This is not a country that likes to admit it was wrong and learn from its mistakes. 1 1

It's good for the candidates to work on their platform in a race against party members. Them not having a primary was one of the bigger reasons why she lost so narrowly last time. Because she is a weak candidate and is almost a guaranteed loss. The country is in a middle of a spike in conservatives, and as much as ppl wanna say it’s trump… no it’s the people. This is what they want. He is just their catalyst. And their numbers have only seemed to grow since the election… we need a candidate that is going to put the working class Americans first (bc that’s most of the vote) and explain how they are going to do that thoroughly . Not by avoiding interview questions and going on long side quest stories, and calling raunchy rappers to perform at rallies. Kamala is very funny and likeable as a person but she seriously needs to learn how to address the public and prepare for press releases well before she runs again. Said candidate needs to find a way to put a bridge between the dueling sides and appeal to everybody, and show some light at the end of the tunnel. It’s gonna take a person that can reach both the young and the old. Edited February 5 by TheARTPOPball
bpmMonkey 7,887
Some of y'all acting like a primary isn't a thing is wild to me. Harris will never win it, the next Dem candidate will be a white guy in his 50s 6ft+. BUT having Harris is in a primary is good. She's the personification of everything that went wrong for Dems last time (justified or not is besides the point). Whoever will come out of the primary must have an answer to their own party faults and therefor will be stronger in the presidential race. saving people, hunting things - the family business
MOT 3,664
I don't want Harris to run again because I think the Dems would have a better chance with a white dude. And I definitely don't want her to announce her candidadacy any time soon because of the midterms. The biggest problem in the US at the moment imo is not Donald Trump and it is not the American people - it is Congress. Trump is a jaw-droppingly awful President and an astonishingly terrible person, but he is just one man. If Congress was doing its job they would have vetoed all of Trump's non-serious cabinet appointments, and they would have impeached him several months ago for his lawless behaviour. So imo THE imperative in the US right now is the defeat of the Republicans in the midterms in November, and I think that an announcement by Harris would hinder rather than help in that regard. PartySick 175,058
I mean, if she wants to run again then let her? She'll go through the primary and if she can't make it through that, she won't make it through the general. If she comes out the Dem candidate then she has a shot. What would really be great though is if this is some announcement of a sweeping midterm effort. She is technically the leader of our party atm, she could do a lot. Progressive policies actually work and you’ve got to stop buying the lie that a moderate will win. people will not vote for a moderate this time around. And why would you want a moderate? Someone to barter with nazis? excuse me, no Actually, a Gallup poll last year kinda proves this entirely wrong. 37% of Americans identify as conservative, 34% as moderate, and 25% as progressive. A record 45% of voters identify as independent, shunning both parties. In head-to-heads, a moderate Democrat crushes a MAGA Republican by 17%. A moderate Republican crushes a progressive Democrat by 18%. The people want a moderate president regardless of their party affiliation. That's why Biden beat Trump, Trump was too extreme and Biden was moderate. That's our best shot at winning. The problem is both the left and MAGA have purity tests that ironically weaken the candidates that would implement the changes they wanna see. Progressive voters didn't turn out like they should have for Harris but had she capitulated to their demands, she would have lost even more votes in the middle tbh. Now, the trade off for this is that while progressives can't run successful national races, they can and often do win local ones. A moderate Democrat in the oval office backed by a progressive congress is the key. Whimsical bitch
River 129,228
So the meme and pop culture marketing to please the young people didn’t work last time so let’s do it again, maybe this time we will win like idk is it a joke? We are at the worst times since WWII, the democracy is at risk, does she really think this the way to win against MAGA?
