There are very few debut albums that reshape pop music in the way it did, and very very few debut albums that arrive as fully realised concepts. I am a fan of country Taylor, but it is ****ing ludicrous that Fearless beat The Fame, The E.N.D & I Am...Sasha Fierce. TFM absolutely should of won when you look at its competition that year. But it was always going to be a big task for an EP to win. Born This Way was worthy, but honestly... 21 is such a monolithic album I don't really have any argument with BTW losing out. I think it's a shame Mayhem lost but when even fans divide over the album it's not surprising it didn't win over DTMF and I don't think it could have beat GNX which I'd assume came second. Honestly though, Gaga's pop output is just too ecentric to win AOTY. Pop albums generally don't do well at AOTY and the ones that do are mainstream and easy.
