Why would people be fine with Mastercard Presents Abracadabra but not this?

Because Mastercard funded a music video. What is this funding exactly?

Probably a generous donation to the BTWF and the sessions for her to make a song about acceptance in a bad time in America. It’ll probably be used to advertise something for first time buyers and houses and mortgages but Gaga rarely does these collabs without someone donating to her philanthropic efforts.

But if we don’t like this, then we should probably hate that she was in the O2 advert in the UK back in 2014 or that Katy Perry was the face of JustEat etc because it’s basically the same.

Everyone freaking out about the sponsors… she’s done collaborations with Mastercard and I believe Citi years ago, why is this a problem now?

It’s beautiful but I am afraid this might get the kind of reception the Covid Imagine video did, as others have pointed out.

yeah because unfortunately we have to anticipate people’s b*tching about something meant to inspire empathy and kindness. those people are so nasty and we all know that’s a perspective rooted in absolute privilege and selfishness. gross.

Sure, you might be right. But there's just something about making a whole song and video preaching about kindness and compassion, only to reveal itself to be an ad for... real estate? It gives the message a bit of a disingenuous feel when you realize what type of money's backing it.

Do you really think empathy and kindness is what Rocket Money ultimately wants to sell you?

I just choose to focus on what she’s bringing honestly. If they can at least sponsor a song and ad about that I think it’s better than silence. I choose to disagree formally.

These partnerships were in promotion of her music and live performances. What is this for?

You’re right, Gaga’s face and voice appearing during the most watched tv program ever couldn’t possibly do anything for her…

Listen, I’d love for her to be more direct. But there’s room for people who choose to lead with light and love, too.

Best guess is cross promotion to record a song she believes in and share it during the Super Bowl.

I mean I doubt anyone’s walking away from this thinking about Rocket Money lol. That’d be like saying the thing people remembered about her performance at SXSW was Doritos.

Bitch (ban me), youre saying "Its powerful to think about what he would say right now," but youre staying absolutely silent about the shitshow (ban me) thats happening in your ****ing (ban me) country right now, and you STILL, you still think that the power of music is going to solve this crisis? Like, **** (ban me), maybe speak out about these atrocities??? How the hell is a forking (please don't ban me) cover of a nostalgic song in a Super Bowl commercial going to be of any effect???

Sorry, Im so mad.

Like, ****, she came out to speak about DADT in a neighboring state back in the day, just because she knew she had the power to make change, and now shes like, "here's a cover of a song from a dead man's children's program. Problem solved"

Girl…there’s an actual housing crisis thanks to companies like these. No matter how you chop it up, it’s a bad look. My generation will likely never own a home, and my favorite artist ironically recording a cover of this specific song for a pay check from these sort of sponsors is off-putting. Having that sentiment does not make me privileged, selfish or gross, and saying so is ignorant af.

I mean, it sounds like you’re thinking of private-equity firms like Blackstone, no? Redfin basically just advertises local real estate listings like Zillow, but they also employ real estate agents to help sell properties as well. Nothing about that contributes to the housing crisis.

You’re correct, but I believe it’s safe to assume Redfin and Rocket also have their hands in shady businesses as well, and even if they didn’t…it’s the idea of recording this song for a real estate platform in the current state of the market at all. “Won’t you be my neighbor”?..read the room.

btw Just doing a quick search I found that Rock owns Redfin.
