The Alejandro demo absolutely BODIES the album version. That dirty, scuzzy synth is so much more satisfying and gives the song so much intensity. The Ace of Base instrumental that it ended up with is so blah. No umph, just a needy pop song that could be anyone's.

I think in this time we're living in, post-Mayhem, where it's safe to say that Chromatica's production was largely handled away from her, this is another song that was unfairly circumcised, like Free Woman.

I'll present both for you to listen now. Present your cases either way.

The final version is definitely rerecorded. It's like the only thing I prefer over the demo.

Also... WHAT?! There's so much more happening in the finished production.

That bass synth actually still exists in the final album version in the chorus it’s just better mastered and mixed. Also I think the choice to make it more Ace of Base works better because of her references for the song’s sound. Plus it feels too much like Bad Romance’s production imo.

Also this was clearly just a reference demo (ie using the artificial violin sound to fill where a real sample would eventually be played)

The only Gaga demos that are better than the final version are Free Woman, Babylon and maybe Beautiful, Dirty, Rich (with the added "look at them all dirty rich girls, look at them all dirty rich boys" line)

Yeah, I though I was losing it. I was just messing with Alejandro's multitracks a week or so ago and I remember digging that specific sound.

It could be louder for the chorus tbh but the verses definitely sound better cleaned up some.

Demo is a sort of raw, unpolished gaga that makes me want to crawl inside her mind to catch a glimpse of what's going on there
