I think it’s definitely overhated, but i certainly wouldn’t say it’s a masterpiece lol. I think there are some good ideas in there that are shoddily executed and I think Gaga is severely under utilized, tbh

I think her character's presence is exactly how it should be, and it's one of those things that people had different expectations for, but the result fits the movie's point. I could do a whole essay about why I love it :bradley:

Also, the fact that she used already existing instrumentals for ARTPOP fits so well for this album in particular.

I get what it’s going for (in the sense that she and his fans are more or less a stand-in for the false manipulative and conditional “love” he gets for being Joker), but I honestly would’ve preferred the story if it had leaned more into earnestly making it a Harley origin story and fleshing out her character more (which would make the betrayal more powerful) as opposed to using her a plot device.

Oh absolutely, she also should’ve made it a Non-Stop Album where all the tracks go into each other like a nigbt in the club. But I fear that’s too much like COADF and she’s very much trying to steer away from being compared to Madonna again

And, even without that, several music critics already compared it to COADF... :sweat:

I’m sure this is obvious to us all here, but I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone on a Reddit tirade explaining that the concept of “Born This Way” HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HAVING PLASTIC SURGERY OR NOT

:oohrightthereyeah::oohrightthereyeah::oohrightthereyeah:

Same! I feel like I posted 20 times along the years:

"She was promoting the song with face + body prosthetics yet y'all thought it was an anthem against physical transformation? :sweat:

Love For Sale -- I really really hope that Tony Bennett truly wanted to do this, and that his team was not just milking his final years for another era.

Can confirm he did, in fact it was his idea to do it and Gaga didnt have the time to do it (he originally asked her like back around the time Joanne was being made I think) but Gaga had to do Joanne, the SuperBowl, a movie and then Covid happened as well. In The Lady & The Legend doc she said she wanted to make it with him whilst he still had some autonomy from his Illness, but sadly his condition worsened while they made it and you can very much see in the doc his team (which are primarily his family) and Gaga took care of him.

I think it's one of those cases where I would have liked this kind of expected outcome, but the film we got went in a totally different direction that I would never have thought of, and I don't just like it but I love it. And I feel sorry that I would have missed THAT if they went that direction.

I think there’s a middle ground between the film we expected and the film we got that would’ve been better than what we got, but I respect what Phillips was going for.

- I genuinely don't blame Gaga for distancing herself away from the online fandom after ARTPOP. The way some of them still speak about her, her team, even her family, like I'd be the same and remove all contact immediately. Joanne era especially, extremely disrespectful.

- Gaga will be always be an activist. Hell, she's probably doing so much still bts. However she's probably so burnt out with the USA poltics, due to her own private health struggles and ongoing activism from then 2016 Joanne era.

- ARTPOP has aged, but parts of the era were ahead of its time.

- I do feel that DANCE IN THE DARK is

Not so much a hill, since reasonable people do understand this, but John Wayne did not “flop”. It was not a single or released in any commercial manner. I can’t stand when I see people saying John Wayne (or 911 but I’ve seen that one less) “flopped”. There was nothing for them to fail
