Good for them and for a genre film being recognized by the Academy. But I have to admit... I don't understand the hype around the film. It's literally From Dusk Til Dawn, without the fun. I was much more impressed with Weapons.

"Random Asian couple" wouldn't actually be random if you understand the historical/ethnic context of the Mississippi Delta in the 30s

I genuinely don't care about that race-obsessed country's so called history. Their inclusion in the movie was random.

I mean, the scene can be understood if one listened to the prologue narration at the beginning of the movie that was then repeated as the scene was happening.

The film deftly shows why they were included as the only "acceptable" minorities to cross over different spheres in the Jim Crow south and is a parallel to what the villain quite literally cannot do as both a vampire and Irish immigrant. You don't have to care about America or its race politics to acknowledge that there is a narrative and thematic relevance to their inclusion.

You're doing the lord's work, but you're simply not gonna get through to certain people. Some of these h*es act like the subject matter is just an aesthetic that indicts them. They'll willfully ignore anything that shows them something that doesn't allow them to trivialize the matter.

yes girl it’s a fangtastic movie esp if ur into the vampire genre like it’s a rly rly good spin on it 

 

i can’t believe they chose to nominate a horror?? movie at the oscar’s but i am seated and i hope they win!! 

 

also wish eddington got more noms i haven’t seen the leo movie but eddington was another great one

OT: while I love all the love for Sinners (and LOVE that horror finally gets its due), I'm personally rooting for One Battle After Another. I predict it will come to define this decade, for better or worse. I need my girls Teyana, Regina, and JP to be in an Oscar Best Picture winning film (and for them to get their dues, of course!)
