Everyone praises it but the vocal effect on her voice during the chorus is just very weird and off. The lyrics are mid at best. I feel people only like it because of the LoveDrug to Applause transition at the MAYHEM Ball. The transition had me shook but it was only because LoveDrug ended and it had an outfit reveal and transition into Applause. I thought everyone actually hated this song and I was in the minority of people who think it’s the best song on the album?? as soon as I dropped the needle on the record when I first listened that was the song that made me like, have an intense emotional reaction… It just has that adult contemporary 80s rock sound that I really love. the lyrics are about love but are really poetic and mature. it sounds like icehouse, concrete blonde, billy idol, sinead o Connor but GAGA. Is LoveDrug a generational song that will stand the test of time for the next 50 years? No, but it's a cute, fun song. The melody and production are great, and for what it's worth, I think the "river in my eyes, I've got a poem in my throat" lyrics are some of the best on MAYHEM.
