Former Moldovan Prime Minister Ion Sturza says that reunification with Romania could become an unavoidable necessity rather than an ideological choice if regional security deteriorates sharply.

Referring to an extreme scenario summarized as “four days to Odesa,” he argues that Moldova would have no real alternatives. In such a crisis, traditional political processes like referendums might be impossible or irrelevant, as historic decisions are often driven by exceptional circumstances.

His remarks come amid growing debates on Moldova’s security, Maia Sandu’s statements on reunification and the broader geopolitical pressures linked to the war in Ukraine.
