Trump: Civil Rights caused White people to be "very badly treated"

President Trump thinks the Civil Rights Movement—a series of laws and events that brought the country closer to realizing the full humanity of Black people, LGBTQ people, and women—was “reverse discrimination.”

“Do you believe … that the civil rights protections that Americans had, starting in the 1960s and so forth, resulted ultimately in the discrimination against white men?” The New York Times’ David E. Sanger asked the president in an interview released on Sunday.

“Well, I think that a lot of people were very badly treated. White people were very badly treated, where they did extremely well and they were not invited to go into a university or a college. So I would say in that way, I think it was unfair in certain cases,” Trump replied. “I think it was also, at the same time, it accomplished some very wonderful things, but it also hurt a lot of people—people that deserve to go to a college or deserve to get a job were unable to get a job. So it was, it was a reverse discrimination.”

Saying this when the way white people treated and still do treat ANY race is absolutely wild.

You literally could still see black people lynched in public in countries like South Africa till the like 80s… and the police force was literally INVENTED to control black people after slavery ended  

Also, you can stereotype a white person but you ABSOLUTELY cannot discriminate against them lmao

There's a real discussion to be had about affirmative action and how much is appropriate (too much or too little) to offset the systematic oppression racial minorities face in the US but you will never find someone in a MAGA hat that is qualified to speak about it and Dumpy is actually the very last place I'd look for a constructive conversation about anything

These statements piss me off, particularly the college ****. I worked my ass off to get into my college program that only allows 100 people to be admitted each year. 10 of those 90 spots are for transfer students. I was a transfer student meaning my chances were somehow even slimmer. I got in by pouring so much of my energy into having the best portfolio I possibly could. However upon getting in, despite all these odds, I was discredited and told by jealous white students who were friends with the rejected pool that I only got into the college program because of diversity and affirmative action. So **** my merits, **** my hard work right? I just simply took an opportunity away from a white person because I needed a handout. **** them and also **** Trump.

I think that's where the breakdown really is.

It's not that they think it's unfair that 10 of the 100 spots HAVE to go to transfer students when they believe all 100 spots should be chosen by merit alone. That would be a view point you could understand, even if you disagreed with it.

They feel entitled to all 100 spots. And that's just ridiculous.
