Decodekid 30,659
For context, regardless of US intentions this isn’t surprising at all given Venezuela has been in an ongoing communist regime for decades now, so Maduro’s imprisonment isn’t something to be surprised of or sympathized with. We should be concerned with the intentions behind and what follows. hi

If they could capture them that easily, why they didn't do that to the narco lords from Mexico all this time instead of punishing the people who are escaping this bad faith from Mexico to the US? Like nothing makes sense to me here. Can the US just capture leaders of other countries and arrest them? Ppl seriously over estimate the UN. They say all the nice and pretty things but their ability to enforce anything is actually quite limited. Theyve existed for many decades and whatever war Countries want to have stilll happen, and if a really wants to ignore a UN matter they do The UN is equivalent to a 4th grade teacher telling a bad class class of kids to settle down and somehow actually enforcing that on all kids. A few might listen, the ones that dont want to simply wont, and its not as if the teacher can spank them into doing it. There no real (serious) consequence at the end of the day other than maybe some organized sanctions
BrandyFinest 833
People who cheer this on because they dislike Maduro are knowingly cheering on the bombing of innocent civilians and basking in it at worst and are mis-informed at best. The US will just install a right wing dictatorship in the place of the current Maduro admin. We talk a big game about how much we love promoting democracy abroad but we never actually follow through on it. The US will not be the savior of the Venezuelan people, they're not even the saviors of their own citizens. Concertaholic 6,578
This is insane. I know Maduro is a horrible person but you don’t just capture the leader of a sovereign nation!? I’m too young to remember but my dad said we did do this before with Saddam Hussein in Iraq…

But also, how many people from wealthy, affluent families join the service? I'm sorry but from a non-american point of view, no one joining the US military should be respected. The US army has been since decades a complete terrorist organization, invading, bombing and ruining countless countries, responsible for million of losses. Anyone willingly joining this imperial mass destruction organization is either stupid and completly blinded by propaganda, or a truely evil person, or both. And in 2025, I think that most people know that all these US led wars are never for a good cause and never end up right.

Agreed but two things can be true at once The fact Maduro sucked doesnt mean Trump is whole heartedly doing this for a good cause or that he doesnt have ugly motives or that he went about this the best way Edited January 3 by Economy
Babel 41,637
27 minutes ago, Economy said: If thats the reason I dont get it. Oil is not quite as valuable as it used to be. Critical earths are about to surpass oil in necessity There is no global shortage of oil and in fact oil (inflation adjusted) is actually becoming very cheap by historical standards. Prices are the same as they were 20 years ago without accounting even for inflation (not so much for the actual refined product like gasoline, diesel or jet fuel but u cant invade that, u build refineries for more capacity and Venezuela has a limited number if them built anyway, the US has way more) Better yet, venezuela may have very large oil reserves but they are comperable to Canadas oil sands. They take many years of investment and mamy billions of dollars to get going cuz the infrastructure required for them is complex. And even once thats accomplished, its always a more expensive oil to produce compared to conventional oil such as found in Saudi Arabia so profits would have its limits Dunno if its really about oil. But if it is, its a stupid reason. Ur chasing an expensive source for a commodity thats become very abundant and cheap WW Venezuela is not only rich in oil, but cobalt, gold, copper, and many many other minerals. Taking Venezuela would also help the US to move inward in South America to keep looting its resources. 5

Allies might though, but it seems this was also negotiated with Putin. Trump probably got away with it by justifying his attacks saying they were counterattacks on terrorism. hi

If it was JUST oil its a bit if a weak reason imo but then again I suppose Exxon could of lobbied
Fernster7 7,976
I have to laugh at people trying to explain to Venezuelans the consequences of this. Girl, we know, we still celebrate this because that man deserves to suffer and rot in jail, I can assure you that you have no idea of the things that happen in Venezuela. Monsters never die. 8

The US is attacking and certainly not for good motives so thats the criticism. Its not like theres been a single comment sayiny Poor Maduro. Literally no one is saying that Edited January 3 by Economy
RAMROD 117,022
All of you aware this is mainly for the oil, right? All these Maduro stuffs are just a front, like yes he is horrible but that's not these war monger Republicans are actually after. Just like GW Bush and his attack on Afghan and Iraq under the guise of 9/11 & Saddam Hussein before. Venezuela’s proven oil reserves are around 300 billion barrels, which is more than any other country, including Saudi Arabia. Same violence they’ve lived for decades in the same way or through other forms of oppression. Most of us are privileged enough to not have ever encountered what living under a regime is like, I don’t think we have a right to tell Venezuelan people how to react under these circumstances. Change is a grey area for them. hi 4
