What sort of support can there be for this in the US ? Trump is already in serious trouble in the polls, the GOP are getting slaughtered in any elections that take place, and one of Trump's campaign planks was that he was anti-war ?

Add all that up and the GOP are looking at annihilation in the midterms ..... but they can't afford to let that happen. The lead-up to those midterms (starting now) could be quite something.

I hate this regime so much. SOOOO much. I don’t have room for hate of anything else because it’s all with these evil crooks.

Initial speculation is Maduro got sold out from the inside. If true, America will likely achieve its obvious goal of controlling the oil reserves with minimal conflict and likely zero direct conflict.

So aggravating.

eh, Biden did a lot of mistakes with Venezuela as well.. what is happening right now is also on him.

Not really. He did everything an American president should.

He leveraged sanctions for political prisoners and at least the promise of fair elections, threatened or laid sanctions for punishments, recognized opposition leaders that could oppose Maduro, and accepted refugees from Venezuela. That's diplomacy.

You wanna talk about his failings in the 2024 election, I agree, but that's a whole different discussion.

But even if he had started dropping bombs and kidnapping presidents, idc who does it, one of my most conservative view points is the idea that the US should not be intervening in every dispute around the world. We are not the global police.

It is up to the Venezuelan people to remove their leader, not us.

Just like it's up to us to remove Trump, not the UN to arrest him or Iran to put bounties on his head or anyone else. He's our problem.

All we can and should do is take our business elsewhere when another nation is erratic or their actions are no longer beneficial to our trade deals. We shouldn't start dropping bombs and letting the next corrupt asshole take power just 'cause he promised we'd get a slice of the profits.

It'd be one thing if Trump had the intention of "liberating the people" (which, again, is not our job) but it's not what he's doing. He wants to install another antidemocratic president/leader that'll be just as corrupt and brutal, if not worse, but he'll kiss the ring and give America a little off the top.

And back home, I'm soooo fatigued by my tax dollars paying for this sh*t. We're overthrowing governments for oil but I can't see a doctor 'cause it's too expensive, can't drive down a road without potholes, and school teachers need extra jobs to pay their ever-rising bills? This country's a sh*thole.

A lot of Venezuelans here in the US hate Maduro and are celebrating.

But in the grand scheme of things this is not good.

Anyone concerned about civil war? Will the US have to invade to “bring peace?”

The consequences of this were not thought out, I fear.

Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, have been indicted in the Southern District of New York.  Nicolas Maduro has been charged with Narco-Terrorism Conspiracy, Cocaine Importation Conspiracy, Possession of Machineguns and Destructive Devices, and Conspiracy to Possess Machineguns and Destructive Devices against the United States.  They will soon face the full wrath of American justice on American soil in American courts. On behalf of the entire U.S. DOJ, I would like to thank President Trump for having the courage to demand accountability on behalf of the American People, and a huge thank you to our brave military who conducted the incredible and highly successful mission to capture these two alleged international narco traffickers.

For anyone who still believes were becoming more diplomatic and peaceful as a species... just know  (especially in western world) that pretty much peaked in 1980s & 1990s and we pretty much been back on a decline ever since and the UN is pretty much just there to look pretty and say all the right things and ultimately not really do much :madge:

I’m reading that Chinese officials were in Venezuela hours before this attack took place.

I agree with you with everything, I simply believe that every event this big that is happening in the world, is a consequence of failed policy after failed policy, failed alliances and agreements, or simply by maybe not doing enough.

I don't know how Biden could have done anything better, or even if he had to do something, because his policy has been proven to be a big mistake.

But at the end, all these wars and conflicts are beneficial for the rich people of the US and other countries, to the guns lobby, to the US military and big companies.

Every time the US is giving money for weapons, the small text says to buy it only from US weapon companies, so they money is circulating back to the US, but not to the right people.. not to you, not to health, or education, it's going to the pockets of the rich.

Can you explain to me please how is that even possible if he is not a US citizen? isn't it a UN justice matter?

If they could capture them that easily, why they didn't do that to the narco lords from Mexico all this time instead of punishing the people who are escaping this bad faith from Mexico to the US?

Like nothing makes sense to me here.

Can the US just capture leaders of other countries and arrest them?

If thats the reason I dont get it. Oil is not quite as valuable as it used to be. Critical earths are about to surpass oil in necessity

There is no global shortage of oil and in fact oil (inflation adjusted) is actually becoming very cheap by historical standards. Prices are the same as they were 20 years ago without accounting even for inflation (not so much for the actual refined product like gasoline, diesel or jet fuel but u cant invade that, u build refineries for more capacity and Venezuela has a limited number if them built anyway, the US has way more)

Better yet, venezuela may have very large oil reserves but they are comperable to Canadas oil sands. They take many years of investment and mamy billions of dollars to get going cuz the infrastructure required for them is complex. And even once thats accomplished, its always a more expensive oil to produce compared to conventional oil such as found in Saudi Arabia so profits would have its limits

Dunno if its really about oil. But if it is, its a stupid reason. Ur chasing an expensive source for a commodity thats become very abundant and cheap WW :rip:
