Yes I do enjoy jazz! Especially experimental/ Freeform, but traditional jazz enters my sphere more often

edit because I forgot to add some favorites…

I like basically every Miles Davis album I’ve ever heard.

Ev’ry Time We Say Goodbye is one of my favorite standards. Along with Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan as my favorite singers for traditional jazz

Depends on what kind of Jazz. Just like Country music.

I love Acid Jazz, it's more dynamic sounding. I also love Latin Jazz, Bebop, Contemporary Jazz, Avant Garde Jazz & Nu Jazz. Like I can dance and sing to these.

The traditional big band Jazz? Not so much. Most are a bit flat to me. It's coffee shop music to me.

Yes! I’m by no means an expert in it, but jazz is one of my favorite genres. Some of my favorite contemporary jazz artists are Emma-Jean Thackray, Samara Joy, Kamasi Washington, and Laufey. I consider Nat King Cole to be one of the best singers recording artists imo, and Nina Simone has narrated periods of my life with her music. I also really love Sarah Vaughn, Dinah Washington, Sun Ra, and obviously Tony Bennett.

What I love about jazz is that, by definition, the genre can and will defy its established conventions, and I love listening to different interpretations of the same standard. Each artist’s own interpretation of a standard often reveals something new or unexpected from each different recording, almost like adding different textures or colors to an already existing canvas.

I don’t think the Great American Songbook really counts as jazz TBH.

I do like legit instrumental jazz, though I know absolutely nothing about it.  I just like the randomness of it.  It’s good vibes.

Yes, some of the Great American Songbook is popular songs.  But it also includes jazz standards.  The big jazz bands played songs from the Great American Songbook.

Hate it. It’s a terrible genre. Although I do think Gaga is great at it and I do enjoy it (sometimes) when she does it. But that’s not the reason why I love her. It is pop music and it will always be pop music. She literally culturally reset it in 2009 and continues to do so in 2025.

Jazz is the reason we have modern pop music melodies in particular. And I love Jazz fusion where it combines other genres into it

I mean, the GASB is predominantly jazz standards for both singers and instrumentalists alike.

I often play it as background music for work or cooking, but I’m not voluntarily looking up specific records, unless it’s Harlequin/C2C :lolly:

OMG all five songs/performances are so wonderful it's hard to pick a favorite.  I pick This Is Always - Betty Carter because of the emotion of the performance.  I cry.

I love how most of the five songs/performances are backed by the most standard jazz trio (piano/bass/drums).

I'm glad you said "It has to be these specific singers."  There is so much more to any jazz rendition than just the song.  The performance can make or break a song.   Of course I'm stating the obvious.  Besides the orchestration and the talent of the performers, the style and the phrasing means so much.   I think when someone says they like a song, they may have a specific performance in mind that clicked with them.
