Twentyone Pilots' new album had 21 vinyl variants available during release week. Where is the article about them? Yes, the vinyl variant thing gets annoying and some are overdoing it... but again, no one is forcing anyone to buy it. True. Besides, TLOAS variants are 'less' compared to others... Some people said Pitchfork is getting irrelevant, so... yeah.

My grandmother collected porcellain mugs and plates with flower prints on them, only for display, not for use. Today some people like to collect vinyl. I think it’s the marketing. They do have the same amount of variants but in Gaga’s case they were just there, available for collectors with minimal promo. Taylor made an event for almost every variant with a countdown and released some of them to assert chart dominance over other smaller artists. That’s why there’s fatigue around her I believe. She’s just too obviously fierce on the capitalism at this point so the fun is kinda spoiled because people feel like she’s treating her fans like cash cows. Not saying that a subtle approach is more noble or anything, but that’s my interpretation Edited yesterday at 01:10 PM by TheFrenchGuy

Because Taylor Smith was the first western artist to push variants out to the highest degree and now the whole industry has to follow to keep up. It’s just pure capitalism and consumerism and imo unnecessary in terms of artistic integrity.
