Is Applause underrated?

IMO it's one of the songs that give the least amount of ARTPOPs vibe. Something about it makes it feel like I'm listening to the whole album, and then there's Applause as an addition. I enjoy it, but I'm not crazy about it, and it feels kinda out of place.

Agreed in a way? I guess that's why the label pushed it as a single and Gaga tried to fight for Aura til last minute 

Back to topic, I don't consider it to be underrated. Now that years went by, it has the right amount of attention amongst all of her hits, if that makes sense

I second this. The love for it has grown within the fan base. Even the GP to some extent but definitely more appreciation now from the fans.

With any artist the GP generally are only going to remember a handful of the major hits & that's that. Take Michael for example, the GP immediately think of Thriller, Beat it, Smooth criminal, etc & a lot of his other work which deserves the same level of appreciation will never get it.

Applause is my personal favourite Gaga song. A powerhouse of electric energy from start to finish. Maybe in time it'll climb the rankings but for now I'd say it's underrated.

Don't know, it definitely got overshadowed by her bigger hits over the years. But even back then, it spent so many weeks in the top 10. Weren't Applause and Roar breaking records for top 10 longevity?

I think ARTPOP has at least ten better songs

Edit: They are….Aura, Venus, GUY, Sexxx Dreams, MANiCURE, ARTPOP, Swine, Donatella, Mary Jane Holland, Dope, and Gypsy.

I do like Applause but it’s not in her top music for me.

So badly along with ARTPOP as a whole of course. The fans adore it but it’s still too unknown for my liking - it deserved so much more recognition and respect in the public and industry

This thread is interesting! I always thought I was alone in thinking Applause wasn’t that great (for a Gaga song, it’s a good song overall) but clearly I’m not
