I have both. They both have their quirks but dogs are a lot more high maintenance. I will say cats.

I've learned recently that I am not really a dog person. But I have always loved cats.

Cats are fine, but I’ve worked as a professional dog walker and doggy daycare attendant (interacted with hundreds of dogs) and can safely say I’ve been randomly attacked by way more cats than dogs. I also generally prefer dogs’ personalities, but I’ve met a lot of lovely cats.

Cats are a lesson in consent. Not everyone likes them for this reason. 

Dogs are people pleasers whereas cats are more of a symbiotic relationship. I dont always want to give Mango (my cat) attention, and Mango doesnt always want my attention lol it works out. Id rather clean a litter box or utilize the self cleaning ones than have to take a dog out every few hours.

I have both and I definitely will say cats. Dogs are amazing and loving creatures who are just perfect... but there is nothing like the bond you have with a cat who trusts you. In general, dogs are more friendly towards anyone but cats seem to be more selective which I think makes it special when they love you. 

I had a friend who did her research project for an MS in psych on the correlation between people who own cats vs. those who dont and understanding consent... the results were not shocking lol

I'm a cat person now. Especially big cuddly cats like Maine Coon

I had dogs in my childhood, those was great time. But the need for walk on the daily is a little too much for me now.

Dogs. The objectively correct answer tbh. Our ride or dies since the caveman days. Pure love given form, loyal to a fault, perfect partners in so many professions (medical, rehabilitation, education, search and rescue, even combat), most are intelligent as hell, and every second with them is a gratifying experience. Any dog given the right owner will be an absolute delight. Any dog. All dogs are good dogs.

There's a reason they're called "man's best friend".

Meanwhile, I could rant for days about how much I hate cats.

All dogs are good dogs, 95% of cats are little assholes.
