ANVEEROY 62,204
Why LMs are so critical about The Dead Dance song and video? Back to back Disease and Abracadabra made LMs expectations super high? Edited December 11, 2025 by ANVEEROY DJ HIT THE LIGHTS!
TheFrenchGuy 2,136
It's just not that interesting to me. Not bad, but not on the level of the rest of the album IMO. It works perfectly for Wednesday however. Edited December 11, 2025 by TheFrenchGuy 24

You mean as a single? For September / Halloween season I would have loved Killah or Zombie Boy. Both would have been great 5
Lucas 28,709
Just not good enough. It feels like nothing but a very cheap atempt to have a viral moment on TikTok. Edited December 11, 2025 by Lucas 31 1
Bling 31,586
It's a cute mid album track but not strong enough for what they wanted it to be (a TikTok dance trending smash). The verses and post are better than the actual chorus. The chorus and some of the instrumental feel wayyy too similar to KFL and SOAM. The trancey vibes were really refreshing and something she hasn't done much. But then the chorus came in... Lastly, the whole concept of the song being a literal dance. It's a bit too TikTok pandering and on the nose. Several other songs from MAYHEM deserved MV treatment over TDD. With that said, I do enjoy the song and video, but just my opinions. DESTROY UR DISEASE 14,152
I think it's simply because The Dead Dance belongs more to the "safer" side of MAYHEM, more radio-friendly (HBDUWM and stuff) and not as DarkGa that some LMs have been begging for for so long (Disease, Perfect Celebrity... Abracadabra is also there but while it has this darkness it's also more GP-friendly and I guess that's why it did better than Disease) Also the music video: while it was a really cute and nice addition to the song (and also directed by Tim Burton himself) it wasn't anything TOO spectacular, especially after Abracadabra mv and since we know Gaga is capable of creating videos like Marry The Night or 911 Personally I really like it but there are definitely stronger tracks on the album than that I can smell your sickness I can... 6
Roughhouse Dandy 12,361
There's nothing wrong with it. Apparently just not what some LMs wanted atm. In a few years those same LMs will be complaining that she isn't dropping random single/video tie-ins and will wish they were getting things like The Dead Dance. This is my Hannah Montana™️ lipgloss.
Monstermilo 5,184
it sounds childish to me - or the chorus does IMO 1

I think its a great song and catchy/fun to dance to. It really highlights the message of MAYHEM but in a super fun and light-hearted way in terms of the music. Could the music video have been darker/different to match expectations? Probably... but its still a great music video too. The black and white elements of it remind me of the cover for MAYHEM. I think the song is a great example that you can't please everyone. As far as I know its still on the setlist and I'm excited to see it live because the song wasn't out when I saw the MAYHEM ball before. Its a song to have fun to, and I wish people get that, and would stop acting like the song completely derailed her entire career/was the biggest mistake ever lmfao.
Ultimecia 6,084
The song is mediocre, the music video underdelivers on all aspects, and the whole is a transparent and shameless attempt at creating a trend. Next question! Time. It will not wait, no matter how hard you hold on... 7 1
sarahb 16,870
I wish the chorus kept the same vibe as the verses. Do you feel him sir? 15

From the comments I saw when it first dropped it sounded like a lot of fans were expecting a serious, high-budget short film which we were never going to get for a YA Netflix show collab. Bronco 15,481
There's 2 things. We knew about the song way to early as a fanbase and that built up a lot of misplaced hype and unrealistic expectations. The song was doomed to disappoint. But also the song is a blatant (but absolutely fun) corporate attempt to recreate an organic viral moment. They never work The gays know how to party
Lord Mayhem 2,236
The chorus loses that dark synth horror instrumental the verses were building up... The video was so poorly edited and the worst of the entire era... The promo revolved around a Netflix tv show which quickly dated the song and lost momentum after a few weeks...
