Anderson123 39,564 Posted 15 hours ago Share Posted 15 hours ago (edited) It's apples and oranges but the only thing I can compare Mayhem and Confessions to is the "return to form" or a brand new fan favorite album after a while. Madonna didn't have a "weak" album at that time but she had survived a lot of backlash with American Life, Erotica, Sex book. Gaga with ARTPOP and Joker 2 doesn't come even close to what Madonna had to face at that time. If I really want to go there, Ray of Light and Mayhem are both albums #7 which are very strong in their discographies by fans and critical acclaim. We have yet to see what Gaga does in her 40s and later but Gaga has been really lucky to walk away with at least one Grammy almost every era.
