As much as I do wish Gaga would speak up more, I have to remind myself that her artistry and what she does speaks to so many issues without needing the explicit statement. Yet, she mentioned Trans rights when accepting an award (Grammy? I can't remember), and often will drop comments throughout her shows and interviews (I remember her talking about Roe v Wade during CBT in DC).

Mainly though, when Lady Gaga is at an event performing/ appearing, she IS political by her existence because everyone already is aware of where she stands and she makes statements or her actions make the statements when the time is called for (Remember her delaying a whole album due to the pandemic).

Taylor Swift is truthfully just not that type of artist or human, as much as I think she believes she is. She holds a signature weight as an artist to society, but one that is obviously materialistic and superficial. And as time has gone on and her career has grown, I have only ever seen and heard of her becoming more comfortable acting that way.

Also- we know Taylor loves to write crappy songs about people she doesn't like or who she thinks wronged her.... so I guess that can speak out to how she feels about the current political environment. If it doesn't affect her, she doesn't care. What she really cares about is people not liking her mediocre ass music... maybe if the WH dissed her music then we would see some smoke

Yeah but there's always this more sour side of things. Like, Gaga would probably have said nothing about trans rights if she wasn't being actively pulled on stage to receive a Grammy. And even then, the statement sounded like a platitude. A general "being queer is cool" when there are so many specific attacks against the queer community, especially trans people, that she could have and still should be calling attention to.

"I was Born This Way" just doesn't cut it for me anymore. Probably due to my own radicalization and disgust at the active destruction and vitriol coming from the right and the apparent apathy of people like Gaga and apolitical types, but yeah.

2012 Gaga would be burning the flag in front of the white house and leading a J6 styled riot by now :icant: but 2025 Gaga just says "being gay is totally cool, guys. Btw have you met my fiance? He's made life worth living xoxoxoxoxo"

And again, if she never earned my respect in the first place I wouldn't care. Like, Taylor can go to hell 'cause I don't give a damn about her but I love Gaga and I want her to continue being the light she used to be. No hate, just disappointment.

I know how ignorant Americans are about the conflict, in the last 2 years they showed it very well, no matter the side they are, the amount of disinformation they believe in is pretty shocking. none of them speaks the truth, it's either an Israeli propaganda or Hamas-Qatar propaganda.

Mind you, the ArtRave happened a week after a small war and it was suggested for her to cancel it and she didn't and BDS tried to make her cancel the show through protests and letters and she didn't, she gave them the middle fingers and pissed them off.

For 2 years she didn't say a word about the war, not in favor of Israel or in favor of Palestine.

Fans created the narrative that WB told her not to say anything, which was purely their imagination.

In all the interviews this era, none one journalist asked her about the war, which means that the team banned the topic.

These are points that I think pique my interest more so thank you. My immediate feeling is that basing it off of most of her stances in recent years, she doesn’t want to speak on it bc it’ll offend someone regardless of what she says. Like the way she’s spoken about things in more recent years have largely been in ways that don’t rock the boat so my inclination is that she’s probably a “I don’t know enough and don’t want to but everyone should have peace” stance that I’ll bet my dollar people around her (Michael) probably said not to talk about it. I find overall that once she reached a certain level of wealth, she’s done basically everything in her power to isolate herself from the world while simultaneously saying it’s lonely and difficult (it’s why I found PC a refreshing song from her bc she kind of acknowledges she actually wanted all of this).

personally speaking I find that silent stance pretty repugnant on its own and I feel like no one needs to assign her an ideology she hasn’t publicly endorsed to say that (not saying you have either, just speaking to the general sentiment) even though I get why some might.

I can understand that...my only thing to say on the difference we see is back to the sentiment I was making and she more or less has established her opinions and she obviously said something because she was accepting an award. (although I was taken back in a good way and appreciative because she hadn't been vocal about an issue even if it was a simple statement).

My best guess on her lack of commenting is she doesn't want to feel forced to keep repeating her sentiments and instead wants her ongoing actions to be recognized in places like the BTWF and her overall aptitude to be an ally. I know it probably is disappointing and doesn't cut it for some anymore... but I strongly believe she has not grown apathetic or stopped caring. I think she is extremely empathetic, and the way you hear her speak about her fans and to the fans at concerts shows it really does take a toll on her to see so much hate going on in the world right now.

Yeah, but you'd be 15 making a post to a dozen followers, she has millions who now know her stance and it made national news. They are not the same thing

It’s exactly the same thing, and if her millions knew her stance, then the post is totally pointless

I think the turning point where things changed was when she spoke up in favor of BLM and POC rights and was attacked back, I don't remember the reasons, but there was some kind of a backlash and her tweet was not received well.. and then slowly she started to speak less and less and focus on LGBTQ+ issues here and there.

I think her last real public speech for LGBTQ+ was at the Stonewall Rally in NYC in 2019 and since then she barely spoke about the community for more than a sentence (like at the Grammy's last year).

I kinda like it when celebrities are an enigma we can't reach, this is how it was before social media and it was kind of fun. now celebrities are more relatable and you can discuss or argue with them on social media like they are any other person, the "magic" of it is gone.

Eh, I think the point is more: I don’t want my brand affiliated with this literal propaganda lol. Like countless artists in the past have sent Trump cease and desist letters about using their music at rallies (which is far less offensive than using their music in a video that’s promoting them brutalizing immigrants). If anything, from the POV of optics, it’s funnier (and embarrassing for the WH) that she ratio’d them and issued a copyright strike and had the vid taken down, which sort of defangs the authoritarian theatre they were going for.

I get what you’re saying in general (and more or less agree), but in this instance, I think her speaking on it is just about distancing more than anything (which I can see why you’d say it’s redundant because I don’t think anyone with two functional brain cells would think she’s MAGA) and calling out illegitimate use of a copyright that’s tied to her image (with a dash of virtue signaling on top, but again, on an issue worth addressing because of how inhumane it is).
