StrawberryBlond 15,031
Good shout comparing it to Creep, I totally hear it now, not copying by any means but like a modern, female take on it. It is indeed beautiful and that rendition on Kimmel was so good that I genuinely thought she was lipsynching or had some sort of effect put over the mic, though my friend who's in the music business assured me that it was just down to a really good mic that blocks outside noises like breathing. She may say the song is about Harley but it's clearly about herself, heartbreakingly so. I don't know why this wasn't marketed as a proper single from Harlequin. I guess because it wasn't played in the movie (and I don't think it was on the end credits either, unless it was the very tail end?), there was no reason to promote it extensively or give it a MV. But so many singles now don't have MVs, so it would be no big deal. The Cure didn't have one. I still have no clue why this song wasn't included in the film so it could have a chance to be nominated for an Oscar for best original song. Of course, considering the academy paid the entire movie dust, it wouldn't have happened, but why wasn't there a push to make it so? Even if a song features purely in the credits, as long as it starts within the first 2 minutes, it's eligible.
uglysexy 163
Harlequin has such a nice aesthetic and it's a shame she just kinda left it there, though we know she's proud of it. I choose to not think of it as a tribute album to the Joker movie even though I don't even think it's that bad, but you know once everyone convinces themselves something is bad there's no helping it. Happy Mistake should be played at the Mayhem Ball but not in the piano section imo, it deserves a Paparazzi-type performance. I don't agree that it should be on the Mayhem album, it fits perfectly on Harlequin. Blade of Grass is beautiful and perfect on Mayhem but idk why she doesn't perform it. She did at Coachella night 2 and it didn't sound super great honestly but I expected her to perform it in the new acts.
BloodyM 1,282
I think Happy Mistake is one of Gaga’s strongest tracks in years. With a real push, it could’ve been massive. We only saw one performance, no real promo. It feels post-Joker, heavy with pain, especially in her vocals, a level she hasn’t tapped into for a long time. And I truly don’t understand the Blade of Grass hate. It’s a modern-day Total Eclipse of the Heart, pure 80s drama and intimate. Both tracks carry the same shadowy intensity. I just think people don’t connect with that mood anymore.

Honestly, it should be there in place of Blade of Grass.
