Abracadabra VM Grammys: theory about why it's not nominated

Hello lovelies.

I was at the gym, staring off into space as I usually do. When it dawned on me as to why the Abra music video didn't clinch a nomination at the Grammys:

Is it possible that by debuting the VM during the 67th Grammys, that the music video was disqualified since—I am assuming—Gaga's label paid the Grammys as a sponsor/advertiser? Generally, when you underwrite something it disqualifies you from consideration for any awards by that organization.

It seems like the most likely explanation, aside from the VM just not being submitted for xyz reasons.

Honestly, I don’t really mind that she didn’t score a nom in that category. We know how great the video is and how viral it went, it doesn’t NEED the win.

Cause after all, MAYHEM and its songs might win 3 GRAMMYs, making it her album with the most wins.

I believe she’s (like 100%) getting Best Pop Vocal Album, Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Dance Pop Recording. Add that to her Best Pop Duo/Group Performance from this year and you get a delicious ****tail :vegas:

Edit: why tf is “c ocktail” censored

I don't know... Your theory could also apply to the song itself and not just the video, since the song did premiere at the same time as the video.

Labels and production companies spend a lot of money to campaign for nominations and prizes, the entire award circuit is one big conflict of interest.

That could so be the reason. It could look like bias.

Or conflict of interest

I didnt think of this but makes so much sense.

Could this also be why she released Abra before the video and not jjst because it was a Friday? Maybe she didnt want Grammys to debut the song too and disqualify it also 👀

Yes that also went through my head. However, a pedant could say “well the VM and the song are two different things…”

also could have been a negotiation. “We’ll air this but you’ll be ineligible for some, not all but some, cats.”

as to your second comment: remember we’re talking about the recording academy receiving money DIRECTLY.

Tbf I don’t think it’s pedantic to say that the song and MV are two different things because they literally are. Mastercard underwrote/sponsored the vid, but not the creation of the song, which would put them into different categories in that regard.

I can't see why that would affect anything. I'm sure other artists have debuted MV's there before who have still got nominations. As if anyone even remembers nearly a year later. I think it's more a case of the most random videos get nominations, a lot of them by more obscure names. It's never usually the most watched videos of the year, it's more indie and artistic stuff. The picks nearly always completely baffle me, so the fact it missed out is no surprise. The only award whose choices are even weirder is best recording package. Most random, basic and boring album covers you will ever see and usually by artists you've never heard of. It's like the troll category. I'm hoping the new award, best album cover, will be a bit better.

It's about the proposed ethics of the general situation. I think you've downplayed the importance. Whether or not the general population remembers stuff like that is besides the point.
