I don't think the theme of being shipped off to an island to kill each other for the entertainment of the elite or some 'moral' purpose is a new idea, or an idea that can only be done once ever. It's a broad enough concept that both pieces of media can stand on their own. The worlds are so different and the use those worlds in different ways. Also did Squid Game not do something similar? And Divergent is basically Hunger Games but worse imo yet that was still a box office success (I think?) I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.
