I don't understand Hot 100

Some time ago Billboard introduced new rules regarding songs on Hot 100:

The updated "recurrent rule" states a song will be removed if it drops below specific rankings after a certain number of weeks:
- below No. 5 after 78 weeks
- below No. 10 after 52 weeks
- below No. 25 after 26 weeks
- below No. 50 after 20 weeks.
This change was made to address the stagnation caused by long-running streaming hits

Die With A Smile was automatically removed from Hot 100 after this rule came into effect as it was below no. 10 back then (it was its 60th week I guess). So, how the hell it was possible for that damn All I Want For Christmas Is You to be on Hot 100 last week, when it was no. 11 in its 73rd week? How Hot 100 works if it allows some songs to skip their own rules? :saladga:

some stupid sh*t about increasing in points, AIWFCIY is going up in radio, sales, and streams, so it can chart. When it goes down, it will completely come off the chart I think.

AIWFCIY is a re-entry gaining seasonal momentum.

DWAS wasn't a re-entry and was losing momentum.

The rules are a bit clunky but the intention is to stop streaming leading to never ending chart space hoggers and creating space for newer tracks to have a chance.

They stated specifically in the announcement that Christmas songs do not apply to the new rules.

Christmas songs basically got a special exception from what I understand in Billboard's announcement. Which is crazy.

Thankfully, Billboard Global 200, the bigger chart, does not have weird rules (at-least not yet), i am predicting Die With A Smile will not leave this chart for the next 2 years or maybe longer. Abracadabra was able to re-enter this week on Global 200 too.

The Hot 100 is an absolutely mess since a few years. I don't think it shows what song is TRULY a hit or not, and a lot of #1s over the last few years were not hits at all.

Well #1s have never been a great barometer of biggest hits even in the past. Ppl pay attention to peaks more than commulative gains for some reason

Peaks have only ever measured a songs highest position for a single week. It tells you nothing about long term success
