Celebrities Are Making Smoking Cigarettes Cool Again Among Young People

There’s always so much pearl clutching whenever a thread about adults doing whatever they want with whichever substance they ingest is posted. Never mind the pollutants we’re exposed to from car exhaust daily, or the fact that alcohol is equally as carcinogenic as cigarettes which can affect us on a cellular level, but no one is framing every beer sipper a manic drunk. :huntyga:

Then again, I have no stake in any such discourse. :thriller:

OT: what is this, the 90s? “My baby smoked because Sabrina Carpenter did!” Then they never had a chance to begin with, I fear…

I mean 90% of the new generation are vaping with their disposable app loaded devices. I don’t know celebrities smoking a cigarette will have any effect.

It's alluded in the article that young people who smokes thinks vape are lame tho, they certainly reject the idea vape = smoking cigarettes. And that smoking cigs now seen to have retro appeal, and retro things have always been something that young people gravitate towards on their journey on finding themselves. One even blatantly mention the vocalist of The Strokes makes them start smoking cos he looks cool with it.

I hope the people complaining about what other people put into their bodies don’t eat or consume any other addictive substances like sugar, alcohol, or caffeine

For me, it’s an oral fixation. I don’t smoke cigarettes, I use an e-cig but even then if someone is smoking a cig and I’m going to see my parents or are already nauseous and don’t wanna smell it, and this part is craaaaaazy…..I walk away :abra:

Sis, we can’t be acting like cigarette smoke is something smokers keep to themselves lol. **** literally saturates into their clothes, the clothes of people near them, the cushions of the seats of their cars, their furniture in their houses, the walls in their houses lol. My grandparents smoked so much that when I went over their place as a kid, even if they didn’t light up a single cig while I was there, I reeked of cigarette smoke by the time I left. Do what ever you want, but I do think the way that people who smoke subject other people to the smell and (secondhand smoke, depending on context and proximity) is pretty inconsiderate.

Smoking is considered cool which is why artists smoke

I started smoking as a young teen because I was a rowdy pile of **** as a teenager... In my adulthood I will socially smoke but not chainsmoke anymore. I don't consider it"cool" anymore either and managed to not really feel addicted/dependent, only really indulging every now and then when offered.

I'm glad for this because going out for a cigarette in the winter months was brutal work.

It isn’t about someone deciding to start smoking because they saw Sabrina Carpenter or Beyoncé do it. It’s about the way it becomes subconsciously normalized. Young people absorb and mirror the habits of the people they admire far more than they think, even when they insist it doesn't affect them. And yes, secondhand smoke and the smell are awful, but what bothers me the most is how normal it has become to toss cigarette butts anywhere on the ground. Littering like that is genuinely gross. :patrizia:

I recently clicked with smoking a little bit of the good stuff from time to time but cigarettes are still so gross :bradley:

The one and only time I ever smoked was for maybe a week (peer pressure) and I stg that disgusting taste stuck in the back of my throat for a a week after my last one. Never once have I wanted to do it again.

When I'm having myself a little lunch outside, enjoying the beautiful weather we've been having lately, and some tar sucker decides to infest my air with 47 carcinogens and the stench of ashes :messga:

Idk about "losers" but it's awfully disrespectful a lot of the times 'cause smoking just isn't something you can do without effecting others unless you only smoke alone in your house...and who does that :bear:

Smoking alone in your house or in a closed space is even worse sometimes because the tar will stick to anything and everything. Even if you clean once and a while...

Nah, I started smoking because of good old-fashioned peer pressure, nothing to do with Addison Rae.

Gurrl, pick a struggle :ororomunroe:

Smoking is bad and so is energy drinks. Since inhaling any smoke is harmful to lung health.

One is breaking your lungs apart, and the other give negative effects on your heart rate, blood pressure, kidney, and blood sugar levels.

Imagine risking having lung cancer, diabetes, liver damage, kidneys stones, all in one body. I can't even :franminervini:

Plenty of people do that! Especially the ones who don't smoke a lot.

Many will only smoke before to sleep. If they live alone, nobody but them will get the effects of it.

I've seen old pics of my grandparents' house back in Virginia and my grandpa used to smoke two packs a day in that living room. Walls were literally yellow :eww:

Imagine putting that in your lungs :eww:

Eh. I’m a smoker. Am I influenced by pop stars? Absolutely not. Do I try to be respectful of others when smoking? Yes!
