Many of those who comment are simply playing at being perfect by downplaying the "bad" tastes of others, when yourselves are no example of anything. You're just an opinion behind a screen. It's like if I, who am I a 29 years old and epileptic, couldn't sometimes eat straight from the jar of dulce de leche—let me live, you bitter people! 🤣

Smoking alone in your house or in a closed space is even worse sometimes because the tar will stick to anything and everything. Even if you clean once and a while...

my dad smoked in our room endlessly. i go to primary school smelling like i just smoked a pack of marlboros lol

I'm so glad I don't have any smokers in my life. They're always the type to say "WeLl yOu AtE a DoNuT!" as if person X eating a donut means person Y next to them also gets the calories, like it's somehow equivalent to being forced to smell their smoke. :air:

Get real.

And they're also the type to respond "WeLl tHeY'rE gLaD tHeY'rE NoT iN yOuR LiFe EiThEr!" like I'd be somehow offended to be deprived of terrible company.

edit2: wow i sound so mean lmao :air:

I'm glad I'm not the first to notice this trend of smoking coming back into fashion. I do wonder if cigarette companies are paying for this rise in the visual of cigarettes in behind the scenes deals seeing as they've lost so much business in a more health conscious world that knows the risks. And it must be working as young people continue to pick it up even though they're told about the dangers since birth.

It goes so much deeper than a simplistic: "I saw a celebrity smoking, so now I do too." It's part of a much bigger picture. You can go through a whole day seeing multiple instances of smoking. You go outside and see people smoking on street corners. You go pick up a magazine at a kiosk and see a wall of cigarettes behind the cashier. You go back home and watch a movie with smoking in it. You watch a new music video from your fave and they're smoking in it. When you constantly see something, it normalises it and therefore makes it seem harmless. When it's a famous, attractive, cool person doing it, that feeling is amplified. Even I, a lifelong non-smoker, weirdly though smoking looked cool when I was a kid and even thought: "I'm totally going to start smoking when I'm older." That exact thought. Because we think stupid stuff when we're kids. But it didn't take me long to realise and be taught that it's terrible so I didn't, thankfully. But it really is that easy for a seed to be planted and see harvest.

I'm so glad my parents never smoked since most people who smoke grew up around family who did. That's no coincidence. We naturally see our species engaging in something we've never tried and enjoying it, so we wonder if we're missing out. It's the nature of being human - monkey see, monkey do. To quote George Carlin: "Your neighbour gets a vibrat*r that plays O Come All Ye Faithful, you want one too!"

Y'all really think you're not influenced by what you see in celebrities' behavior, movies, TV, ads, etc? You may not smoke but I bet there are many things in your lifestyle that are influenced by all of that.

We all think we're so above advertising, don't we? It's like Jean Kilbourne once said in her study about the power of advertising: "Every time I bring up ads, most people say to me 'I don't pay attention to ads, I just tune them out, they have no affect on me.' Mind you, I hear this mostly from people wearing Gap t-shirts, but that's another story."

I hope the people complaining about what other people put into their bodies don’t eat or consume any other addictive substances like sugar, alcohol, or caffeine

That's a somewhat false equivalency. Sugar, alcohol and caffeine are harmless if consumed in moderation. But there's no moderate amount of smoking that's healthy. Apart from a little bit of weight gain, consuming sugar, alcohol and caffeine has never caused any problems for me. But I've seen numerous problems arise through smoking. Point is, yes, we all engage in some harmful behaviours but many of us think that smoking crosses a harmful line that goes too far. Some addictive substances are more dangerous than others so we show more concern for them. I've bizarrely heard some smokers get high and mighty over how healthy they eat and that they'd never eat junk food...all while smoking a stick with 50+ carcinogens, a habit that's far worse than an occasional McDonalds meal. Never fails to amuse me.

We just never learn our f.ucking lessons

It's like we had some huge breakthroughs 10 years ago and now everything is just reverting back to before then. It's cigarettes, cocaine and eating disorders again

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

We're on page 5 of the thread and people still don't understand how someone drinking alcohol or eating fast food next to you is totally different from someone smoking and sending that awful smell and toxic stuff right into your nose and lungs? Total Brainrot is what she could call the new album.

The only GGD member who can read / Credits to Celloo Deng for the profile pic!
