It was a really good show. Nothing too theatrical. I went to two shows, one on the floor so I can dance and out stage her and then one in the lower level bowl. 
 

She didn’t always sing but she dances around a lot and has intense choreography. She brought the energy, was sweet to the fans, and she has fun songs. 
 

She does an act on a B stage and sings some of her YouTube channel songs. She wrote some of those songs in her early teens which is pretty impressive.
 

In the seated show, one of the girls in front of me was singing her soul out to some of the ballads and was crying. At the end of the show I was like “you need to be down in the floor next time next to the rails” and she was like “I love her so much.” The girl reminded me of myself at The Monster Ball shows I went to.  
 

I get she’s not everyone’s cup of tea and that’s totally fine. She’s only 22 so there is plenty of room for growth. 
 

Most of the fanbase was teenaged or college aged girls but shows with that crowd are fun because of how excited they are to see the artist plus the non stop rooting and cheering. So Close To What is my second favorite pop album of the year so I’m excited for the extra tracks.

Tate is never gonna be some generational live performer with grand artistic concepts but she's decent and continues to improve. Kinda like how Dua Lipa started out with mediocre stage presence but now she's excellent in concert.

This is actually so good for an emerging pop girl and the fact it outgrossed her previous tour by multiples shows her fast growth. It’s fun to see new girls rising. It’s not super easy to get a $100M+ tour, she’s really broken through!

I know you have Miss Lupone on as your pic. What are some things you like in a diva/pop girl? Like aside from Gaga, who are the other girlies you like? Just curious what about Tate doesn’t resonate. 
 

I know it’s fun to throw fun shade at the girlies. I got captivated by Tate while randomly watching The Brits and was in awe of her performance. Then I saw her Billboard performance and was very intrigued. I love choreography so that’s why I love Gaga, she can sing and dance. I am pretty honest with what I like (I personally have only seen the Dead Dance video 2 times because I don’t care for it).

I just curious what traits in an artist a person likes are and how they connect to what newer generation pop girls. I have a friend who knows I love pop music and such. He’s a major Beyonce fan. He went to like 8 Cowboy Carter shows. He was surprised to learn I didn’t care for Danity Kane.

I generally prefer an artist that feels like they have a distinctive style, vision, or artistic voice. McRae’s music is fine, but it feels like kind of bland background music to me at best. I recognize that she can dance, but the pop choreo for the sake of pop choreo doesn’t generally do it for me, I’d prefer something more in the way of theatrical staging, choreo that feels sharp, intentional, and tasteful etc. Her image, her music, her voice, and her overall style just feel kind of generic to me. 
 

Tbh, when it comes to music in general, Gaga was basically the first pop star I was ever interested in (had an early affinity for Madonna and Gwen and still love Madonna, but Gaga came first). In terms of contemporary artists, Beyoncé’s excellent (talent, attention to detail, visual, storytelling, pushing the envelope), I’m not the biggest fan, but I can appreciate what Taylor brings to the table as a songwriter (I just think she tends to lean to heavily into juvenile tropes and gets caught up in petty bullshit too easily). In terms of younger artists, I don’t live for her music, but I appreciate what Sabrina Carpenter does as an artist (the way she plays with the blonde bombshell archetype in a postmodern Marilyn kind of way), I think Billie is very talented and is stylistically versatile, and I also think Chappell is excellent (great pop songwriter, image, voice, stage presence). 
 

I do also like pop music that’s just intended to be fun, like Carly Rae or Kylie Minogue, because I feel like their music leans into the unadulterated bombast, absurdity, and sincerity that’s at the heart of a lot of great pop. I also appreciate stuff on the artier end on the pop spectrum (Björk, Caroline Polachek, ROSALÍA, Kate Bush is a legend etc.)

I’m generally pretty open-minded when it comes to music (and listen to a lot outside of commercial pop), but there’s something about McRae’s music, image, and style that just doesn’t click for me. Maybe it’s the overly-serious approach to music that feels kind of silly and fairly aimless? The aesthetic nostalgia for a time in fashion and pop music that I think is arguably one of the more boring in recent memory (late 90s-early 2000s retail mall fashion)? I don’t mind the Timbaland throwback vibe (love a lot of his stuff with Gwen, Britney, Li’l Kim), but I also don’t think her attempts to capture that sound really do it justice.
