All of us here at Artist and the Machine are psyched to welcome Grimes to LA Summit. A provocateur and philosopher, Grimes has been both criticized and lauded for her theories on AI, futurism, and luxury communism. She is the first major recording artist to license her voice for public use.

Recently, Grimes teamed up with filmmaker Matt Zien on “The Tutorial,” a behind-the-scenes look at how she is using AI to create music and videos. In the trailer for “The Tutorial,” Zien promises to walk viewers through “every step… every single program we use, so that you can start doing this yourself.” Zien is is the founder of KNGMKR Labs, a creative studio working at the intersection of cinema, technology, and culture. For the LA Summit, Grimes and Zien will hunker down for a wide-ranging talk about how machine intelligence can boost human creativity.

LA Summit Opening Keynote, Grimes: Inside the Machine will give an inside look at the making of Grimes and Matt’s recent AI-fueled projects, including their new music video Artificial Angels. Together, they’ll explore how human imagination and machine intelligence converge in her creative process, and the evolving philosophy shaping the future of artist–machine collaboration.

I used to believe art was in the eyes of the beholder but I refuse to acknowledge anything that isn't made by a human mind as "art".

AI "music" is just noise.

Honestly, I'd have zero issue with an artist using AI to supplement their work if the systems that currently exist and we refer to as AI were truly AI.
Because true AI would be capable of uniqueness and originality and therefore not theft.
But its ****ing gross seing "artists" use what we call AI because it is theft, it's weakened reproduction of other people's work that's been stolen in almost all AI systems and then gets used without permission or credit.

This is a good point. If AI ever reached a threshold of being true AI with its own mind and self awareness and consciousness then their work for all intents and purposes could be called art as well as there would be real thought into it, just not a humans

But right now its through thoughless computer algorithms, and if theres no thought or cosnciousness into it, thats not art. Art requires awareness and thought and emotion as well. Our current "AI" models have none of those 3 things

Excuse me, no clankers, thank you.

I fully endorse robot racism. If AI ever becomes self aware, it needs to be destroyed :neyde:

Tbf, I seriously doubt that will happen in our life time anyway. We dont even fully understand the exact patterns or dynamics that result in consciousness/self awareness much less actually replicate it

Im not saying its imoossible. Im just saying its likely so complex of a thing that our AI algorithms in their infancy are probably not even remotely close to what is required to create that

Honestly, I don't think it'll ever be possible as a human creation. I think the limit will always be virtual intelligence algorithims that require a database to learn and regurgitate. The only reason I think AI systems in things like medical sciences show a higher degree of accuracy/efficiency in diagnostic etc is because it removes both the limits of an individuals memory and their bias. Like a lot of the examples given in medtech is effectively just the diagnostic software ignoring occams razor and being right where as the human medics get dogmatic in the "thats too rare to consider" approach.
