bowlsofbrett 550
The pigeons we see in cities are descendants of domesticated pigeons. I know they are annoying, but humans domesticated them and then later discarded them. 1 2

Well pigeon poo is for good luck, much needed to survive her live vocals jk Thought funnily a similar thing happened to me before a date, which ended up being a complete shitshow should have canceled and went str8 to the dry cleaners

artmonstered 13
I’ve never expected to see people discussing pros and cons of pigeons on this forum. Love it tho. Reading this goes well with a glass of red wine. 🍷

ActualPatient 1,981
Just a reminder that Americans in the early 1900s drove Passenger Pigeons from billions in population to zero by 1914: https://www.nhm.ac.uk/discover/passenger-pigeon-how-the-worlds-most-common-bird-went-extinct.html mix of hunting, deforestation/habitat loss, loss of food source.

I was like: wtf is she talking about plus they’re cute yeah nothing against an animal but the ones that are in big cities like NYC or LA or Paris are hella dirty and gross because they are basically on the ground with urine, feces and puke ewww nature or zoo ones are ok but I’ve never seen a pigeon abandoned or abused so yeah, Sarah, hold onto your knickers ma’am. “Fantastic, chic, freak, slay.”
hELXIG 43,665
Well she's right. They are very peaceful creatures. And it is not their fault they are the way they are. Humans brought them into the cities as carrier pigeons and basically domesticated them to the point they lost their natural survival skills. And then when things changed and they were no longer needed, they were just wrecklessly abandoned and released to fend for themselves with no natural spaces to live. The problem is ALWAYS humans I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

I mean, of course, but also it’s on Las Culturistas and I’m assuming it was her “I Don’t Think So, Honey” which is the purposefully unserious rant portion of the show. dit 46,555
Is it true all pigeons were domesticated before and that they are the first type of fully domesticated animal to have been completely abandoned / reintroduced into the wild post domestication process? StrawberryBlond 14,995
Their intelligence is certainly underestimated. There's a reason they were used to carry messages and people have kept them as pets. And doves and pigeons are the exact same thing, yet society views doves as more beautiful, clean and suitable to be released at weddings, all because their colouring is different. Bailey Sarian's history of them really blew my mind:
