Katy Perry's Bandaids receives praise from critics

It's not a great song but not that bad either but coming from 143 the standards are so low. And this comes from someone who absolutely can't stand Katy's big anthem or corny songs like Roar, Firework, Last Friday Night, This Is How We Do, etc. so it's not like I have Teenage Dream and Prism on a pedestal, she's always been a generic pop star.

If Bandaids is the sound of a new album maybe I'd be interested to hear more from it, I rarely listen to her but have enjoyed The One That Got Away, ET, Chained To The Rhythm, Cry About It Later, Teary Eyes, etc. even Lifetimes wasn't that terrible either.

It doesn't reinvent the wheel but I knew critics would like it. It has that classic Katy sound, it could easily have been a 2010 track from the vault. It's not that sonically dissimilar to Never Really Over, either, which a lot of people liked. And it's better than 143 so we'll encourage it. Right now, she's desperately trying to find something to prove she's got her mojo back and hitting us with nostalgia and a heartbreak anthem is an obvious route but a smart move. Chart success is in the lap of the gods but she could realistically hope to get a well received album and tour out of it, maybe even a Grammy nomination, which is all she can realistically hope for these days.
