How is it possible that we never agree on something. 
 

Imo Ariana embodied Glinda perfectly. Cynthia however, I cant see the wicked witch in her. She is, too soft, for a lack of better words. All actresses (the good ones) that played Elphaba had a soft side, but also a hardness/toughness. Just look at some of the best Elphies: Idina Menzel, Willemijn Verkaik (the best imo), Rachel Tucker, Kerry Ellis. Soft, but tough. Also strong jawlines, and you could see them as the original witch from the wizard of Oz. Cynthia plays the vulnerable side of Elphaba well, but misses something for me. It also doesnt help I dont like the tone of her voice that much on the songs, especially when she does the riffs

Idina is horrendous in the role, but agreed about Willemijin, but I also think Cynthia has a great voice and I appreciated that her take was different and it doesn’t really bother me that she doesn’t read as “witchy” given that, in terms of internal continuity, it’s conceivable that in the world of Wicked the characterization of Elphaba as seen in TWOO is intentionally more villainous than she actually was. I think they were both excellent and I get where you’re coming from, but I just don’t agree that Ari was better. I thought they were pretty evenly matched.

yeah cynthia has way better roles than her elphaba. her elphie is far too generic, even the way she says its not distinguishable and very bland. every one of cynthias roles outside of wicked are better than her wicked portrayal. 

ariana was born to play glinda. her mannerisms, the way she sings, she gave it her all, where as i feel like this was more of a check opporunity for cynthia. her acting in harriet and color purple are WAYYYY BETTER than her elphie.

i feel like cynthias elphie lacks character and dimension 

her voice sounds good but idk it feels lacklustre i prefer her in her other projects - especially color purple
