Look, I'm sorry if this sounds rude, but it's the only answer I can come up with. The problem is that you Americans and Europeans continue to think you're the center of the world, the only ones capable of hosting events and concerts, the only ones with the infrastructure and money, the only educated fans. You need to be a little more humble and open a map to see that the world is bigger and more diverse than you think.

The gag of it all is I’m Latino. And I work in the business. And not even Brazilian nor Mexican where it’s easy. I was never talking out of my ass. I was talking out of primary experience putting these shows in tiny “third-world” countries where you think it’s so easy to put here. You should be the one to open your mind a little before dumping on artists and teams (including the local LATAM ones, because negotiations go both ways and the possibility that someone in LATAM was the one who told the artist no, is real). You have no idea how hard it is.

That explains why you're polite, but the funny thing is I also work in the cultural events scene, and I know it’s not really like that when it comes to profits. They still get paid in dollars, and it’s the local production team that has to deal with any losses, which, honestly, are pretty unlikely given the demand here. Bruno Mars came and did 15 shows, and Dua Lipa’s doing a Latin American tour, actually, I think her trying to learn Spanish is a way sweeter gesture than just waving a flag. I just wish that, being Latin yourself, you could see how Americans and Europeans really see us.

Its interesting that you went on an entire pages long spiral about something you made a false assumption about. And now when called out you're desperately trying to rewrite the narrative so you don't have to accept you are wrong.

I’m not trying to change the narrative at all, I still have the same opinion. I just decided to mention that I also work in the cultural events field because someone brought that up here.

Oh yes the artist rarely loses. Like you said, the local production assumes the loss. A little fun fact is that Bad Bunny broke one of the production companies in my country because they went all out and they couldn't recoup the cost when he was touring with Un Verano sin Ti.

Like I mentioned, this is never a "I hate LATAM I'm not going there" issue exclusively. Like, quite literally, Peru could have said no to Gaga because it wasn't a financially sound decision for them. They could have tried but ultimately decided it was too risky. Or maybe they said yes but asked for too large a cut of the ticket sales and Gaga said no.

Or in Costa Rica's case, the artist has to forfeit around a total 30% of the profit to taxes, cause we have a law that all public events must fund the national theatre, so that fee is mandatory. Then if the concert is held in the capital city where the stadium is, then there is an additional fee that goes to the local province government. Maybe Gaga said yes, and then when she saw the taxes they said no. Or she was okay with the taxes but once you deduct 30%, and then the local company asks for 50% to recoup costs, she would end up with just 20% and that can be too low a profit for her or her team.

Some countries are viable, others are not that easy to make happen. Which is why negotiations are rough and not a "Gaga hates latam and they just treat us differently because they are not interested in us" issue. The mere fact they started negotiations with these countries categorically disproves the lack of interest.

I'm well aware of how the rest of the world see us, its sad, and just like you, I wish I didn't have to pay thousands of dollars on a plane ticket and hotel to see Gaga, but its what we have to do until the market becomes less risky. Not all countries will rise up to the task at the same time. I'm happy Mexico and Brazil are starting to, and I'm excited that larger artists are coming there. Hopefully in the next years Argentina and Chile will consolidate even further to match them, and in a decade or so smaller Central American countries will too.

Also the gag of them claiming others were being prejudicial towards them when they were the only one that insulted anyone based on country of origin and ethnicity. The dime store gaslighting of it all.

So you thought that user was polite when you said this?:

Because if someone told me I was egotistical and needed to be more humble and were passive aggressive towards me - I wouldn't read that as someone thinking I'm polite.

Thank you for providing the specifics. All I did initially was reiterate your points as a LATAM individual who works in the industry and they immediately accused me of being virulently racist lmao. Wishing them well.

I couldn’t afford to go to any of her UK dates so I’m hoping for her to come back with more shows, stadium or not, I’ll try to be there this time!

I’m feeling more confident these days that she has many more years of touring ahead of her, she seems in a really good place. It helps with the FOMO when you don’t manage to get a ticket :volantis:
