Two years after she first came under fire for speaking against hormone replacement therapy for children, Róisín Murphy is, unfortunately, still out here spouting transphobic b—.
Last week the Irish pop musician posted a graph on social media suggesting that, from 2021 to 2024, there’s been a decline in young adults identifying as transgender and non-binary. One user pointed out: “Yeah people are less likely to be openly trans at times when hate speech at trans people is encouraged by people in power,” to which Murphy imprudently responded: “I think you mean when dissenting voices are heard.” Following those comments, a festival in Istanbul, Turkey has removed Murphy from their lineup. She was supposed to headline tonight and is being replaced by Turkish singer/songwriter Kalben. x

Translated from Turkish, Back In Town Festival said this in their statement:

And here’s what Murphy said in response:

I’m very pleasantly surprised that a festival in Istanbul did this since Turkey is known for its conservative politics. This gives me hope.
Bravo:applause:

lol. Her response is wild :ladyhaha:

Last year I was defending her and gave her the benefit of doubt, but how immature she's behaving now really does turn me off :bye:

And can't even keep her story straight. Contradicting herself in the same statement.

Have fun with what's left of your career, flop 💜

It's the government mostly. Urban young people are the same as you'd find in Europe or NA but we're not in power. That being said, I too am a bit surprised as usually quite the opposite has tended to happen over the last few years. She can choke and take her TERF sh*t outside.

Is there some reason my LG7 isn't here? Has she died or something?

A few weeks ago I checked out her twitter and murphy is so GONE. Her posts and replies are outrageous. She is hardcore transphobic. Not just "I said something insensitive once and theyre out to get me". She has become a freak.

So confusing and devastating because she is someone who has existed in queer spaces since the beginning of her career. So much of her sound and her ability to have a career has been inspired and thanks to the queer community. Shes become quite cruel.

If it was just the comments from the two years back - which seemed like she was trying to have a conversation that backfired at first - that would be one thing.

But she literally attacks people online and inspires her followers to do the same. Her music is so good, but I wont be listening to anything new from her. Just the old stuff.

I agree. Last year I thought people were being a little overwhelming with their responses to her statement and that it was just a lack of education/ knowledge on her part.

Her argumentation is so similar to J.K.

"I have zero hate towards trans people" *goes on a transphobic rant*
