Emvee 8,826
Yeah, like Bronco said, Doug Ford is very likely trying to sabotage Carney’s government. The same thing is happening in Mexico where PAN/PRI are praying for tariffs to trash the economy so they can point and say “Look, they’ve ruined the economy! They’ve turned us into Venezuela!” Don’t underestimate how stupid electorates can be. This **** works on them. It’s in no one’s interest to play hard ball with Trump right now (at least if you’re in North America). He’s testing out a take over of the military and, if he’s successful, he won’t think twice about getting rid of USMCA/CUSMA/T-MEC if you hurt his feelings. Not sure what Ford would gain from sabatoging his government and economy tho. Hes not a direct competitor to Carney at this time unless he decides to go Federal at a later time which considering he has a majoroty Government right now im his Province and the Conservatives currently at the Federal Level already have a leader currently with no opening. Sabatoging him and his government right now would only hurt Ontarios economy especially considering its one of the Provinces in the strongest cross fire of trade war. Trump is not focused on Oil, Natural Gas or other natural resources (with exeption of lumber) that the Western Provinces export more of. Ontario and Quebec are bigger in steel, auto and other manufacturing so they are the biggest loosers in Canada if trade talks fail. Makes no sense imo for ford to Sabatoge the feds Also im not sure how well Ford with fit with the traditional conservatives. I may get a lot of hate for saying this by but conservative standards Ford can actually be very moderate or Centrist. Id say hes only a couple shades to the Right of Carney tbh

Politicians like Ford operate on ego alone. This time he's probably overstepped the mark and got burned, but his general strategy of presenting himself as the big man at the table willing to do more for his province than Carney against Trump is a sound one. His behaviour is not too dissimilar to Boris Johnson's behaviour as London Mayor & then on the Brexit campaign - essentially running a stalking horse campaign for leadership. His hair alone made him unforgettable Fair points about the attention. And it gets him well recognized across Canada should he ever choose to run Federal
