Nine years ago, Gaga released Joanne! One of her most vulnerable and personal works to date, it’s a daring and dazzling record from an artist that refuses to remain in one place.

It was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album and the song “Joanne (Where Do You Think You’re Goin’?) won Best Pop Solo Performance at the 2019 Grammy Awards.

During an interview with Zane Lowe, Gaga talked about Joanne:

There's no filter, this record goes right for the gut," Gaga said of the album. "Vocally, lyrically I am trying to tap into the vibrations that make you feel like I'm giving you a giant hug in a way. Or giving you a release, a place for you to rage, or to feel healed, to close your eyes and listen. That's the hard part. Sometimes you don't want to listen to a song that makes you go there. But that's what this record is, this record makes you go there.

Sometimes you don't want to listen to a song that makes you go there. But that's what this record is. This record makes you go there. But it's also, I have to say, one of the most rewarding musical experiences of my life, making Joanne.

This is the album that made me become a fan. I still listen to it quite often and every time it feels like I'm meeting a dear friend again

Even though that year AHS Hotel set wheels in motion, it was Joanne release that made a final LM out of me.

Against the community grain, this album will always have a special part in my heart. Calling it country is as reductive as calling Mayhem disco-funk.

No matter what visual or sound style she borrows, Gaga always makes it her own. And that's it in the end.

No matter what opinions people have of this album, Joanne will always have a very special place in my heart. I was fortunate to be living in NYC at the time when it came out and I relive that time of my life whenever I listen to the album. We got to hear her voice in a different way than we had before and it was nice to see her make this album for personal reasons and not necessarily for the fans/public. We were just lucky to be there to share it with her ❤️ I also saw her perform Angel Down & Joanne outside the Bitter End which I will forever treasure as one of the best live moments of hers!

I’ve come to realize the album does have a place of respect in this community, even if it’s not everyone’s favorite album.

While Joanne’s haters are always loud/obnoxious/disrespectful/not funny at all, there aren’t as many of them as it seems.

I really enjoyed this album. I still remember the hype for Perfect Illusion, The Dive Bar Tours, The Million Reasons performance at the AMA's.

Not to forget the emotional aspect. Every time I hear Dancin' In Circles, a tear runs down my leg

This album is overhated by the fandom.

Some of Gaga's best vocals ever are on this album and there are amazing tracks like Diamond Heart, John Wayne and Perfect Illusion.

Like everything Gaga, Joanne, the album is raising controversy.

Haters at one end and lovers at the other. Attackers will always clash with defenders.

This type of heathen debate between extremes always reveals there's something meaningful going on. Nothing's worse than a tiepid reaction.

She made this album mainly for herself and her family, she admitted this numerous times. And I am glad she did it because of that, regardless what fans think of it. (Like some fans thought it was cringe she made an album dedicated for someone that she didn't even met ever, among other things), Although she have confessed during one of Chromatica interview that the reception from her family isn't what she wished for, and we saw one of the moment of it when she previewed the song to her Grandma on 5ft2. But I am still glad she did it.

Love that album and era so much. It's so perfectly encapsulated in the Five Foot Two documentary.

"And I'm going to fight like ****ing hell for them to ****ing love this. Because IT IS lovable."

And a lot of us do Gags
