I love the album, no skips.

I get the Mayhem concept, a mix of sounds and genres, it's fine. Someone in the comments above used the word mishmash, and to be honest I think that's fair, but you can't call your album Mishmash, so you come up with Mayhem instead. I see Disease (and to a lesser extent PC) as the real outlier of the album, but the fact that it was the first single and then opens the album misleads a bit about what's to follow. 911 was something of an outlier too, but it was tucked away, so when they first heard it everyone went 'oh look, an outlier'.

Bottom line though (literally), love the album.

Also I feel like people are ignoring that cohesion refers to more than just the sound of an album. 

Like The Fame Monster is not sonically cohesive but it is thematically cohesive. 

Same with The Fame & Mayhem.

Where as ARTPOP is sonically cohesive but thematically diverse and Chromatica is thematically and sonically cohesive. Which is why Chromatica loses steam because its beating the same idea over the head repeatedly.

Gaga will drop an album like Mayhem, have it be critically acclaimed, have it be full of bangers from across all her genres, spawn a Gigasmash monster hit alongside another top 5 global hit and cement her as a streaming force. And this fanbase will STILL find a reason to complain.
Mayhem pretty much exceeded all of our expectations, be so for real.

Disagree. MAYHEM is one of her most cohesive and consistent works.

Cohesion isn't just about sound. That's a very superficial way to look at it. Despite the perceived "mayhem" in the shifting genres, the songs all feel like they were cut from the same cloth. Like they were envisioned by an auteur.

Cohesion could be thematic. Cohesion could come from intention. Many things can tie an album together and I feel like in MAYHEM there's a sense of grunge and angst and reclamation that permeates through each track that makes them unmistakably of this era.

I personally love how the album flows. It makes for very engaged listening and it has very good replay value.

As much I’d love a PC/Disease album, the Mayhem tour would have probably been postponed or worse off at this point if so.
 

She said really put a lot of effort into reaching the peaks of her voice and I think a whole album like that would be hard to replicate on tour nearly every night.
