Israel and Hamas reach Gaza ceasefire, sign off first phase

 US President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas signed off on the first phase of a US-proposed Gaza deal.

"I am very proud to announce that Israel and Hamas have both signed off on the first Phase of our Peace Plan.

"This means that all of the Hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their troops to an agreed upon line as the first steps toward a strong, durable, and everlasting peace," Trump said on his Truth Social platform.

All parties will be "treated fairly," he added.

The president described the moment as a “great day” for the Arab and Muslim world, Israel, surrounding nations and the US.

Earlier, Trump said he may travel to Egypt this weekend as negotiations for a ceasefire in Gaza were showing signs of progress.

Indirect talks between Israel and Hamas have been underway in Egypt since Monday to discuss Trump’s plan to end the conflict.

The 20-point plan, announced on Sept. 29, includes the release of Israeli captives in Gaza, a ceasefire, and the disarmament of Hamas. The Palestinian group agreed to the plan in principle.

Since October 2023, Israeli attacks have killed nearly 67,200 Palestinians in the enclave, most of them women and children, and rendered it uninhabitable.

I have zero faith.

This "deal" is drafted by two governments that don't even recognize Palestine as its own nation and a political group that seized power of Gaza.

If anything, this'll just be a test for the Israeli people. Will they still care about their government slaughtering thousands and displacing millions when they don't have a few dozen of their own in Hamas' custody?

It's about PR, nothing more. Israel never needed the excuse of retaliation or hostages to steal from and kill its neighbors before, it won't after this "deal" is enacted either.

And if this "deal" doesn't involve Israel paying some kind of consequences or reparations to the people of Palestine after the bombs (temporarily) stop falling, then it's a sh*tty deal.

I mean, the country who actually did that is Qatar, they control Trump and the US military now and the made Trump treat Netanyahu like his own little bitch... Hamas got to the point where they just need more recruits from the Israeli jail, so the deal is perfect for them, they will just rebuild the organization.

The amount of water you carry for this dude is legitimately insane. Also, this is obviously not happening if you literally know a single (1) thing about both the nature of the current Israeli government, the fact that Trump is bought and paid for by AIPAC, and the fact that Trump also claimed to have brokered a ceasefire peace deal at the beginning of this term that also fell through. But sure, let’s keep taking the pathological liar at his word, right?

Smotrich, one of the far right pillars of Netanyahu’s government coalition, threatens to collapse his government if a ceasefire is reached. Netanyahu obviously knows he can’t risk that, given that he faces criminal prosecution if he’s deposed, which leads me to believe that Netanyahu likely does not plan on honoring this and/or the specifics of the ceasefire will be as such to tilt the scale towards Israel in a way that ultimately undermines Palestine and sets the stage for further Israeli expansionism to appease the far right and advance his own interests. Obviously I hope for peace, but given the amount of evidence suggesting the bad faith of most of the actors involved, I think it’s pretty unlikely.

One of the hostages said in an interview that she had a conversation with now dead hostage about the “release”, she was hopeful and said 1-2 months and we’re out, he told her “at least 2 years” she asked why, “we are jews, releasing hostages is an holy act” so he said “yes but we have netanyahu and we are leftists” 

Even they knew that it’s over for them.
