to be fair, how many mainstream albums have released without a lead single release beforehand?

the only ones i can think of in recent memory are beyonce's visual albums

digital sales are still sales, so they would be available to purchase before the album

however there hasn't been many opportunities for an album release day lead to debut at #1 without pure sales, hence why it hasn't happened sooner
