I mean Gaga is also very happy but she still managed to deliver what I'd consider her almost magnum opus  being happy doesn't excuse boring production, especially with MM as your producer.

Maybe she got the wrong MM

she's a good sport. I find the album to be waaayyy too plain past the first 4 songs but I also appreciate how hard she works. I just think she had potential to really deliver something amazing with this theme. The album sounded so cinematic in it's 4 first songs and then it just collapses DRAMATICALLY with that atrocious Older Daughter song...YIKES.

When Gaga was at her peak during the TFM era and the lead up to BTW, she faced very very similar criticisms.

People appreciate BTW now, but back then the "Madonna copycat" allegations were thrown around just as easily as "capitalist queen Taylor Swift" is today. And even on the commercial side of things, Gaga got flack when her team sold BTW for 99 cents on Amazon to boost numbers.

So it's no different today with Taylor. She's just that big that's easy to praise, criticize, or use her on social media for engagement bait.

TLOAS's music is really not that different than her previous albums quality-wise for better or for worse. Not lyrically or production wise. But because she's so successful people set insanely high bars for her that it's hard to top (folklore/evermore especially).

Again, we saw that with Gaga and ARTPOP where it felt impossible to not only follow up on Born This Way but also The Fame/Monster. Now, more than a decade later ARTPOP is "underrated" and considered one of her best albums. Funnily enough, Taylor is being criticized for clunky or cringey lyrics on Showgirl, but even Gaga had "clunky lyrics" that some people found off-putting in G.U.Y ("please retweet" and "guy I'm romancing loves to hold you well").

TLOAS has some of Taylor's best songs imo: Father Figure and Ophelia. She's able to evoke imagery really well with those two.

It's just a matter of time before people start actually enjoying/appreciating TLOAS and TTPD (already seeing much-deserved love for this one) instead of getting caught up in the discourse around them.

I agree with this except, ARTPOP was widely experimental and ambitious in a way that TLOASG is not. Taylors album does not stand out in her discography in the same way that ARTPOP does in Gaga’s. I don’t see this album later becoming a huge highlight in her career, as ARTPOP, or say, reputation or folklore/evermore have.

Let's be honest, other fanbases are jealous of her. If she weren't as successful, no one would care this much about how genuine or artistic she is.

Other artists don't even write her songs or direct her own videos, she does, she's very involved in every single step of her creative process, more than any other popstar.

Judging by how we love to brag about every achievement of our faves, we all wish they were on her level of success, wether we admit it or not.

There's a reason why the charts thread here is contantly buzzing, we all care about charts and stats, is part of being a fanbase.

This on a Gaga forum is tonedeaf :samanthac:

The album started off pretty strong but then fell off a cliff with some of the cringiest songs she's ever written like Wood and Cancelled. That being said, it's not nearly as bad some people are making it out to be. I feel like we are at a point with Taylor Swift where it's impossible to review the music on it's own merit because Taylor Swift the public figure has overshadowed Taylor Swift the musician.

For real, everything past the second song is a CHOP. She also just sounds extremely unlikeable on some of the songs.

I wish she would approach this differently. Responding to criticism with dismissal even when it comes from a place of frustration can close the door to meaningful reflection. Every artist, no matter how accomplished, benefits from moments of honest feedback. Negative reviews don’t always signal failure; they often highlight perspectives that can inspire growth and refinement.
Acknowledging critique with grace doesn’t weaken confidence it strengthens credibility. True artistry involves both self-assurance and humility, knowing when to stand by your vision and when to listen. Growth often begins in the uncomfortable space between the artist’s intent and the audience’s response.

There’s a difference between owning your narrative and refusing to listen. Bad reviews aren’t personal attacks; they’re part of the dialogue that comes with releasing art. If you truly believe in what you made, you don’t have to hide behind the noise. You face it, learn from it, and evolve.

Sending love to her. I hope she can change and grow.

She doesn't care if people like her or not, her attitude towards criticism for a while now has proven that- and my guess is most of her fans share the same mentality. If someone says they found something annoying and your response is to do it louder because "**** the haters", you're acting like a 14 year old.

Simply acknowledging that "art is for people to either like or dislike and thats fine" would have been enough... but she had to go out and make it about how she still succeeds off of it.

Didn't she already do that in the 1989 era?? Eras is her second peak I think she's just fine doing whatever she wants to do

i feel like her fame now makes her look like she was just an amateur singing in dive bars during the 1989 era. it's nowhere near comparable

@elsamarsbut also... what exactly do you expect her to say? "i fucking hate my album, don't buy it or stream it, the reviewers are right"? obviously she's going to support her work, she wants that coin. but if this album is proof of anything, it's that she does care about the negative feedback. people criticised her previous one and what did she do? got rid of her producer, wrote dumber lyrics and reconnected with her hitmaking producers to try to win the haters back. sadly it failed because she had all the right ingredients but didn't bake the cake long enough or something. but she does take it in.

I think whats wild is people routinely hate on singers that trash their older works but also are insisting that Taylor trashes her current era publicly within minutes of release.

Like remember the hate Miley got after something beautiful released and she basically said "eras done and ive moved on" after the first week.

As someone who took a lot of heat on this forum for defending Taylor during TTPD's rollout, I cannot defend this album. I'm a Monster first, Swiftie second, and I love Taylor's past work. But this album is objectively bad. The production is thin and weak. The lyrics are mediocre and juvenile. The first five songs are decent and should have been either an EP or put on the backburner until a full album was fleshed out. Because the majority of it is trash, and as a fan, I can't defend it. She has let being a billionaire and fiancee to a sports guy go to her head. She is clearly feeling untouchable because she's ammassed enough wealth and fame that she will always have a successful rollout. But aside from the album just not being good at all, she's abusing fans' good will even moreso than TTPD with her variants and merch rollout. It's disgusting behavior, and I'm sitting this era out.

I am a Swiftie, and I have traveled abroad to see her, bought her signed stuff and whatever, but I literally agree on every single point you made. I could have not described it better, it is the first time I feel disconnected to her and kind of annoyed by her behaviour.

I think the right move would have been to not comment on the negative reviews or reception at all tbh.

The velocity of my eye rolls as this woman dominates that top however-many-songs-are-on-the-album and breaks sales records just to throw and almost indignant sounding hissy fit over people not liking her album who were never gonna like her anyway.

She's the girl that cries over Grammy's she feels entitled to.

A billionaire that feels slighted if someone isn't buying a dozen copies of her album.

She's one of the easiest musicians to hate :kry: clearly talented but only stans can look past how much of a spoiled brat she is.

You're stinky

like it’s so easy just not to attend conversations around her if she isn’t ur preferred topic to talk about

So people aren't allowed to have an opinion? People are to just avoid getting into conversations about things they dont agree with or stand by? Weird.

I was thinking about this. She definitely cares, which is understandable.

This is more than cares. This is only caring about accolades over art and the passion of making music. Its all about charts and awards.
