AVeryGagaHolyDick 26,254
Well yes, and I think it’s stupid to pretend we’re not. At least her success is genuine, while Sabrina’s hardly is with all the automatic plays everywhere but no one says a thing lmao
meltedplastic 401
nah. her music sucks and shes anti-feminist and a billionaire shes basically elon musk as a blonde girl. and the world is her high school talent show 1 1
Scarlet Witch 1,653
No. Many are not harsh enough. Not every opinion needs to be written into lyrics with a beat thrown on top to be made into a song to fleece impressionable fans.
palma 8,439
If anything she should get even more backlash imo. Madonna was too public enemy no.1 when she was the biggest star on the planet but at least she pushed boundaries and her music was great, though wrapped up in controversy. Nothing Taylor does lives up to her predecessors' work as a popstar cause she doesn't have the range - and she doesn't need to since her fanbase consumes anything she puts out. Is there some reason my LG7 isn't here? Has she died or something?

We've all seen it before, so it's not really discussion-worthy. Same with Tate. Billie is more or less the only big breakout star since Ariana to have some great talent and a unique sound & execution. Is there some reason my LG7 isn't here? Head Empty 25,326
It's pop music, it's not that serious.
Yaaaas Gaga 955
The thing that frustrates me with Taylor’s success is that it is very disproportionate with the quality of the music she releases and her musical talents. When Michael Jackson achieved ludicrous success with Thriller or Adele with 21 for example, there was minimal negativity around them because it was almost unanimously agreed that the success lived up to the hype and was worthy of the dominance they were achieving at the time. The same cannot be said for Taylor. I find it to be almost embarrassing that Taylor is perceived as the best this generation has to offer, given the other talents that must be out there. I feel like future generations will look back on her success with pure confusion as to why she was so highly regarded, particularly given that I really don’t see much of her music having longevity beyond the current zeitgeist. In answer to the OP’s question, no I don’t think critics are too harsh on Taylor because at this point I think she is throwing fuel on the fire. She continues to oversaturated the industry and uses many questionable marketing tactics to promote her music. She’s so caught up in her own success and I don’t think she even realises it, but I think she will in years to come when she reflects back on this time period and feels a huge disconnect with the music she created. So as to not be a complete negative Nancy, I will say that IMO 1989 is and remains Taylor’s strongest album and the one I feel would’ve have been more worthy and justified of her current success. luxoricious 153
Yes. People in general are. That's the age that we live in I guess. And every comment here is a living proof of what I'm saying.

Makes me think of Elvis - he is less remembered for his music and more remembered for being rich/ making ten million mediocre movies and albums. Edit: with all due respect to Elvis, he was a generational talent and an icon - as is swift. Huh? I don't even like his music but I don't think anyone thinks about anything but his music when it comes to him. I didn't even know he made movies. LadyxGaGa 2,409
regardless if u are or not ain’t the issue. the framing of this is kinda a catch 22 it’s the fact that alot of yall whether it be against an artist or in support of. but the fact that a lot of yall talk as if u have personal stake in the artist not even as a fan but like u have a investment like we talk about positions of power and a lot of yall talk as if u have board position at these X artists labels its just yall talk about success as if they can’t be successful at the same time people are eating from each others pie when if u rly look everyone is eating their own the point is ur allowed to say whatever u want but it just comes off as if chart numbers or sale numbers or whatever thing makes them number one is a personal attack to you

27monster27 13,754
If we can call out the double standard Beyoncé gets for acclaim, then we can do it for Taylor Swift too. The stuff these women have gotten away with regarding commercial success that others, like our fave Lady Gaga, have been dragged for is ridiculous. he/him/his
holy scheisse 22,333
I’ve been on the fence with her for several years now. Folklore and reputation are the only albums I’ve ever truly rode for from her. 1989 and midnights were okay too. I even saw the eras show Her practices with her business are extremely off putting. But the nail in the coffin for me is the song bout charli. it’s so revelatory of just how immature and mean she is. And turns out it absolutely was personal and not just coincidence to release a TTPD variant in the UK only on brat release week.
