Are we too harsh on Taylor Swift?

It's not that big a deal, it's ok to not like an artists album and talk about it. It feels louder because Taylor's so popular and gets so much attention for her music.

I'll praise her where it's due, and there's plenty that Taylors offered over the years. But I think it's understandable how many fans are not resonating with this album and era.

Think she's trying to be so edgy and ultra cool, and that would have worked perhaps if the production was also edgier/meaner/darker. But it's all very 2000s pop rock (e.g.Hilary Duff) and the lyrics feel like they were written by a high schooler...

I don't think your comparison makes sense though. Like you said Elvis at least was a fashion icon and his music was revolutionary at his time. I don't think we can say the same for Taylor Swift.

If we're being honest the most iconic thing about her is her numbers.

I agree that she really is not comparable to Evlis, but I think her legacy is one that will haven't ever seen before. She may not be iconic or distinguishable but there is definitely something that will always be remembered because of how large she is. Her music will probably always be interesting and relatable for audiences - even in 100 years.

She's like if a single woman was The Beatles

History always repeats itself. Right now its conservative and boring - so she's thriving. In 20 years when everyone is craving strange art that makes them think differently, people will be looking back and wondering how everyone went along with t swift.

With power comes responsibility and people have a right to call her out for being so silent on many things. She has the power to inform and educate her fans but she won't because she is scared it will hurt her chart dominance.

I liked her since 2008 but everything after Folklore has been terrible and a constant cash grab. Obviously we aren't forced to buy her stuff but no one is going to respect you when you release a million variants to chart higher and higher.

She really seems like one of the most greediest and selfish artists out there. Nothing is ever about something bigger than herself, its always about her life and playing it safe musically.

Also, why go after Charli in a song and create this drama? Why not make a song about the right wing nuts who have literally made fun of you in public? She really comes across as spineless and I see it more and more as the years go by.

I don't think we're being too harsh.

As with any type of invasive species, there are measures that need to be taken.

She also gets praise when it is not warranted honestly .

she can literally buy 10/10 reviews and fabricate record sales with all the variants.

she is the textbook definition of overrated

& I really hate to just pin it all on her. Perhaps a lot of it is her team pushing for records. To pass Adele she/they will have used quite a few advantages... streaming, streaming parties, theater streaming parties, and the max 4 variants allowed now. At this point there needs to be a separate chart for physical sales and the streaming era or some records deserve a * for sure.

Maybe if her music was more interesting, so no. It's annoying how huge she is, but doesn't have the same variety that MJ, Madonna, and Gaga has in their careers, but I think this is more of an annoyance with how people consume music and rather than the artist? Maybe I'm totally making this up, but it's like people don't want to challenge themselves listening to more music outside their safe taste, and just stay comfortable in whatever is in the top 100 is on Spotify. But idk if this has always been a thing, as someone that listens to a lot of types of music, idk if the average person stays in one lane. I just know Madonna and MJ took over the world for a moment and their music doesn't seem as...bland...to me...

side note edit: im thinking and kinda hoping the bullshit with ai music will push artists to create more interesting music than before, ai for example is killing lofi, it's really sad for anyone who likes making that sort of music has to compete with this BS.

Yes but not when it comes to her music. I think that any and all music is open to criticism.

However, it has become very acceptable to say really horrendous things about her that have nothing to do with her music.

I understand that there are things that she does that not everyone’s agrees with, however, she has yet to say or do anything really evil but she gets treated like she has. I’m all for dialogue and discourse when it comes to discussing the art somebody makes, but I am increasingly uncomfortable with how socially acceptable it is to be ghastly to her as a person.

And the fact that it largely comes from queer men really bothers me, especially because it draws us much closer to the types of people that we supposedly stand in opposition to. It’s gross.

White woman crocodile tears. @Ladle Ghoulash made a post about how she literally behaves like Trump yet is constantly praised for it ("strong" businesswoman when she legit scams people, can't let anything go with other female artists yet is a feminist who attacks women repeatedly, can't stand anyone having a touch of success (Billie, SZA, Olivia), cries when she isn't praised because she's entitled to Grammys, thinks she's a genius English teacher when she's mediocre at best and believes using a thesaurus is the same as composing a song). Oh and she loves to heehee around MAGA for funsies. She's ****ing weird.

I don't think you're asking about the current album specifically and how much praise or criticism it gets, I think you're asking more generally, and I think you're right that when you reach her level of fame you are going to get picked apart no matter what you do. Her level of fame has become monstrous, I would say it has happened only a few times in the history of rock n roll, and it is inevitable that with that level of attention and scrutiny you are going to get a lot of criticism.

Your comment is so spot on. I think we will be revenged in the long term. Trust me, Lady Gaga's legacy will much bigger. A true performer, fashion icon, vocalist and revolutionary artist.

We, monsters, know that. Yet, after all the years of unjust criticism she's been facing, I believe we kinda feel the need to show everyone she's the best now, in this moment. At least one era of being again on the top, will all the records broken, being top 1 everywhere and major awards won, without any b*tch interrupting.
