Lucas 27,466
I disagree The most praised songs on Mayhem are the darkest ones and the ones that have the Gaga twist that we love. My personnal issue with TDD is not that it's not dark, it's just that it's a cheap bad song that should've stayed unreleased. The GP loves Gaga's uniqueness and her Gaga twist, which are 2 things that TDD doesn't have

And the mv is LAME! Gaga: ma vaffanculo Can u guys just enjoy the era? Too dark, not dark enough, mayhem is not dark, dark dark dark Didn't you hate TDD at first I think the key take away is that none of these people know what they're talking about when they say "dark" 'cause that's a mood descriptor and therefore subjective and different to every person TDD isn't dark at all imo. It's funky and campy, I love it. Disease is very dark, grungy, loud, and aggressive...and I love it too. You're stinky

And i actually prefer to listen audio instead of music video.
AVeryGagaHolyDick 26,252
Why this thread now? So random lol not to mention we all loved Disease, the fact that it would undeniably flop didn’t stop us from celebrating it

SHALLOW 16,459
I love Disease MV. Idk how this fanbase let it flop tbh but i agree that it definitely wasn't meant for the GP. Overall I'm pretty satisfied with this era in general, especially the darkness of it. I just wish we got more looks and photoshoots to help solidify the imagery of the era

I wouldn't call it "cheap" but it definitely doesn't mesh well with the song itself imo. The "Gaga vs Gaga" thing was wasted on it but I'm so glad it turned into the "Lady in Red"/"Mayhem" stuff. I feel like what Gaga does best is subvert expectations. You turn on Disease and the video is what you'd expect from that song, just not executed well. Turn on Abracadabra and you're blown back by something that came out of nowhere. With a title like "The Dead Dance", you'd expect the creep factor and she initially delivers with the dolls, color scheme, and look. But then it's flipped upside down and becomes a campy, groovy jam and the video perfectly encapsulates that. You're stinky

I only had to post here and there that the song is meh and not to expect much before release Dark is many things, it can be a concept, the lyrics, the mood, the aesthetic even just the fashion. and dark can be fun too and not something depressing or creepy, it can even be sexy. For example, TFM is considered a dark album, but from a concept, the fear of.... but the songs? most of them are pretty happy dance songs. like Telephone.. actually only 2 songs are "dark" in the sense of it, Teeth and Monster. Mayhem is a very dark album, even a song like Don't Call Tonight is dark and speaks about emotional abuse of a parent and the fear of confronting them. This is what I like about Mayhem, it has so many layers of darkness, that it's actually challenging the fans themselves and their own idea of "dark album", because they expected something very in your face, very flat, but then they got this big onion to deal with. Mayhem is the album I've always wanted from her tbh. I put it next to MJ's Dangerous as one of the best albums period and if anyone knows how geeked I get over that album you know that's the highest praise I can give Serious themes and vibes throughout but the songs are deceptively fun. I never cared about "dark" or "not dark". Gaga usually does well at whatever she's trying to do and that word seriously has no set definition among the little slurs so the complaints they give over "dark pop" are literally meaningless Totally agree on TFM too 'cause, sonically speaking, that's probably one of her brightest sounding albums. Only "Monster" and "Teeth" have a darker sound to them despite every song being thematically...idk, dire, I guess. You're stinky
BloodyVelvet 667
Disease is a masterpiece. Period. MAYHEM is dark either it’s the lyrics, the music but the overall theme is definitely dark and I’m here for it. It’s gonna age incredibly. And in a few years, some of you, myself included, will see it as her magnum opus. Just wait and see. ABRⱯCADⱯBRA
