when was the last time Gaga was involved in any sort of genuine controversy?

Why is this a metric used to measure how brave a popstar is? You don't have to light the world on fire to burn bright.

She's toned down, sure, she's also nearly 20 years older :laughga:

As we can see from the likes of Katy or Taylor, refusing to grow tf up and evolve eventually backfires.

Besides, all the controversies she was put in back in her early peak years were stupid. "Ooh she has a penis!", "she got puked on!", "she released Judas on Easter!". It's giving attention seeking behavior from an artist trying to establish herself and build a freaky shield between her and the industry. And that's not to discredit her early work, Swine at SXSW is still my favorite and probably will always be, it's just that up until about mid-2014, she was trying to get the world to know her name. And since then, she's been trying to get the world to know her.

This, tbh. The storytelling and visuals in the MBT are some of the best of her career and none of it relies on being shocking, per se (not that there’s anything wrong with being shocking). She’s really spun her story and her vision into high art and, imo, the MBT fulfills the mission statement of ARTPOP better than anything from that era ever could. I think the most important contribution of the ARTPOP era was the fire it lit under her ass to let the world see *every* element of who she was as an artist in the subsequent years, not so much what it accomplished as an era in and of itself.

I forgot this place is still full of landmines. My damn show got postponed to *checks countdown clock* 158 days from now :kry: and I'm still avoiding spoilers.

I thought you were talking about the Monster Ball for a second :rip:

But yeah, if the Mayhem Ball is CoachCabana but elevated then it's absolutely her best show so far. Gaga's out here aging like fine wine in every sense of the phrase :whitney:

It needs to be March already. Just give Mariah Carey a billion dollars so we can skip Christmas this year

We would have got Bangerz instead of ARTPOP and The Life of a Showgirl instead of Joanne :bear:

I remember by 2011 in the UK that I was able to talk about Gaga to all the subgroups I hung around with in highschool.

The chavs loved her dance music.

The emos loved TFM and BTW.

The normal girls loved her because she was a pop girl.

Like, no one else in that period cut across high school social groups like Gaga did.

She was the IT girl.

It is interesting because it is the other way for me. Back in school, I was the only one that liked her. All classmates saw her as a freak, a man, ugly. They even laughed at me, asking why I would like this singer. Until now, 15 years later, my old schoolmates are actually starting to admire her artistry, and always understand why I'm still loving this same singer, while they have already changed their favorites a few times in the past 15 years.

Hit me a message and say hi !

Was ARTPOP Gaga fearless? Or was she self medicating with drugs and alcohol to cope with PTSD from SA/her hip injury alongside the Fibro pains and as a result taking way more risks than the average person?

She stopped doing severe drugs by the time the ARTPOP era started. She admitted this herself. She did occasionally smoke and drink (and yes she did get drunk like at SXSW lol), but it was nothing compared to the Born This Way Ball.

Yeah I think that happened after Bad Romance, and it ended during Born This Way era

RAMROD

Fans are having PTSD of the era. And trying to cope.

Perpetually trying to remind everyone of the era and what could have been

(ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ✧*:・゚ But if you can't be good, then just be better at it (*´艸`*) ♡♡♡
