has halloween historically boosted any song to the top of the charts the same way christmas has? halloween is much smaller than christmas, it was pretty delulu to expect a significant bump for a song that isn't Thriller or the likes

Yeah, it's really just the week or so before Halloween (if not 1 or 2 days adjacent to Halloween itself) when people start to stream "spooky music". It's not like Christmas at all.

I was hoping more for a boost on radio though but that doesn't seem to be happening either.

Because the “Halloween effect” is not real and it has never been real for music. Delusional fans just used it as a coping mechanism to justify that TDD was not smashing.

It's totally a real thing. MJ's already gone up almost ten spots on Spotify from Thriller and the Scream album alone and we're only 6 days deep :bear:

TDD just isn't established in the GP's mind. I'd say give it a few years of being added to playlists. It'll never "smash" (by Gaga standards) but there'll definitely be an uptick in streams every October.

It not imo. Thriller is more of an exception than a rule. “Halloween” is not even an established sonical genre like Christmas Carole’s. Its effect on some songs is still widely limited and fans expecting a similar phenomenon to All I Want For Christmas are delulululu

I don't really care about her stream numbers, girl's effectively a billionaire at this point :bear:

But also, I've heard the opposite? That Halloween is huge in the US but not so much in other countries. Did @nATAH lie?!

Nothing's touching AIWFCIY :icant: Thriller specifically is the only thing that comes close to seasonal peaking.

I guess time will tell though. Certain tracks (like Monster and Bloody Mary) definitely get bumps in spooky season, I think TDD will eventually join them if it doesn't this year.

Again, not earth shattering peaks, but cute bumps while people pick out their costumes, put up their decorations, and throw their parties :whitney:

The vocals are great but the instrumental could have been more edgy

Shadow of a man has more potential as a halloween hit

I'm here to take a break from university homeworks :/

There's a reason why the song was left out of the original tracklist. Zombieboy was a far stronger choice for a halloween spooky hit. Not to mention the waste of Eden and Vanish.

That would not have done any better than TDD...

Thriller is literally in the top 2 all time Halloween classics along with Ghost busters... its hardly a fair comparison to gage how much the average "spooky" song can hope to gain from halloween month

Also "10 spots" is kinda relative. The gaps arent huge further down the ranks, the increases dont have to be massive to move 10 spots. How much of an increase was it in total?

Oh girl, idk. I don't track that kind of stuff :laughga: when I was making my own Halloween playlist a week or so ago I was curious and looked at his place 'cause a year or two ago Thriller literally repeaked on some charts in October. He was in the 40s, now he's in the 30s. By Halloween day I wanna see how high he can go :whitney:

But my point is that people aren't just streaming Thriller for five minutes and saying "welp, Halloween is over now :vegas:". They're building playlists and Gaga absolutely has material for those playlists. TDD should totally be making it. It won't be massive but it'll be something :diane:
