Economy 50,425
So with Taylors album release this week that gets attention and I lowkey brought it up in convos about music and entertainment and I managed to throw in Gaga too. My goal was to directly (or indirectly) ask as many co-workers as possible who they like more. Lady Gaga or Taylor Swift as an experiement to see how GP truly feels (i get that its a small local sample) Important caveats... most of my workplace (a warehouse) is disproportionately men between 25 and 40 and predominantly 2 cultures (Indian and Jamaican) with only a few outliers so realistically thats a bad sample and skus results but I still thought it would be fun and I managed to bring it up to 9 coworkers over the corse of 2 weeks. I will obviously not list names but to give an idea ill list their age and gender and background so you can visualize by group and demographics and who they liked better #1 - Male, 26 years old, Indian background: "Lady Gaga for sure, Taylor sings annoying for little girls" #2 - Male, 26 years old, Indian background (best friends with #1 guy). Likes both, prefers Lady Gaga (he likes pop Top 40 a lot btw, unusual for a guy his age) #3 - Male, mid 30s, Indian - "Not a huge fan of either, would choose Lady Gaga over Taylor Swift because at least she can sing, isnt annoying and Poker Face was actually a good song back in the day" #4 - 22 Year Old Female, Indian - "I like both but I really like Taylor Swift" #5 - 27 Year Old Female, Polish - "Taylor Swift is so boring, Lady Gaga is good" (my wife btw, we work together ) #6 - 33 year old male, Jamaican - "I dont get why people like Swift so much. She so bland like jerk chicken but no jerk. Lady Gaga I can respect" #7 - Mid 40s old male, dont know his background but he is somewhere from middle east - "Lady Gaga has some good songs, Taylor Swift is just trash" #8, early 30s male, Indian - "not my type of music, but Lady Gaga is ok, Taylor Swift I couldnt care less" #9, late 30s year old male, Phillipino - "Lady Gaga was my fun club days, I still like her now, I dont care about Taylor Swift" -------------------- It would be interesting to see how results might change if gender sample was more balances and if cultural backgrounds were more diverse but still I was shook... I knew from previous convos and playlists people played that Gaga was clearly more popular than Taylor in my work place but 8 out of 9 I got to ask prefering Gaga? I did not expect that high. And the only person who said they prefered Taylor still liked Gaga Additionally theres ppl I did not get a chance to ask that Ive heard play Gaga songs, i never heard them play TS so i assumed theyd also say Gaga Just a fun experiement. HeAteMyh3art 1,556
My dad once played Taylor on the TV cause he was curious, 2 songs played, 3rd one he goes "This is literally the exact same song again, it's so boring". Lady Gaga 2009 598
Taylor is finally getting strong GP backlash after her latest flop album, she's been heavily overexposed for 3 years now even though Midnights, TTPD and TLOAS are by far her weakest albums. And she pressures her fans to buy 20+ variants before she even lets them hear a single so she can continue to "break records" with mid music. 6-Time VMA Slayage (2009-11, 2013, 2020, 2025)

Schwerk 7,277
Interesting! At my workplace in television I think Taylor would be a tad more popular. We often have Taylor and her succes as a topic on our show, Gaga is never mentioned. Thats probably because most people at my job are hetero white women from 20 - 28 yo. Their algoritms are fuelled by American women going crazy over Taylor Swift. Then theres a bunch of white gay men the same age who either like both or prefer Gaga. Then theres the actual show hosts and the older people like me between 35 and 55 yo who will probably prefer Gaga for nostalgic reasons or because of her vocal talent and diverse legacy. They probably only listen to Die with a smile casually and belt out Pokerface during karaoke. I'm the only die hard fan at the office but collegeas in the past have been to Gaga concerts. Edited 15 hours ago by Schwerk According to Gaga I'm a ****ing rad bitch

This is such a weird dynamic now. When Gaga first came out straight men hated her now they accept her over most other pop girls It makes sense that a female dominated workplace then TS would be more popular
Lord Mayhem 1,365
Gaga really did clean up her image with the GP and they respect her as a singer, artist, and overall legend in pop now... Taylor really does capitalize on all the white girls and gays who buy up all her stuff... Gaga is international and universally admired

Gaga is international and universally admired This is what i think as well Gaga = liked and respected by more people broadly, but excluding a small group of little monster fans. most people only like Gaga casually and arent major fans. Its probably why she manages to be top 3 or 4 on spotify monthly listeners yet she is far lower than that in total streams Taylor = liked by a little less people but the people who like her, REALLY like her and support her obsessively so her numbers on charts are WAY bigger than Gagas will ever be
