I mean for ARTPOP it could go both ways. She's hurting because of what happened during the era, or hurting eas her inspiration.

 

It actually started with ASIB, if I'm not mistaken, with her advocacy about mental health. Then Chromatica, with dancing thru the pain. Last, MAYHEM started it with Disease.

I think she has hurt in a different way during each album. The same way we go through different periods of pain and anguish in our lives... she just uses music to show and channel it whereas some people like me just drink copious amounts of wine and doomscroll
