Taylor always has been at her greatest when the cheese in her lyrics feel authentic.. like, Red is such a great record but only because she is the whitest girl out there being overly dramatic because some situationship of hers banged someone else or whatever. I still to this day get sometimes so worked up lip syncing on the bike to this record that I start tearing up. And yeah, the originals are always better than the rerecordings precisely because of the age difference. And honestly, apart from Red & 1989 I didn't really care for a lot of the vault tracks she released. Like you can see why many weren't released. I'm hoping this album goes back to her blatantly cheesy pop but in the same manner Kylie has where it feels tongue in cheek. I'm bothered by this reductionism with everything related to Taylor just because people don't like her (and my comment isn't directed at you, of course!).
