Ladle Ghoulash 27,032
Taylor is addicted to misusing tropes and characters from Shakespeare lmao. Like what’s the point of making yourself Ophelia if you’re going to reduce Hamlet to a “bag full of scorpions?” Edited Friday at 01:04 PM by Ladle Ghoulash We have forgotten our public MANNERS 4

Found this quote on Genius : Didn’t really need to reread it [Hamlet]. I wanted to sprinkle some references in the bridge, so like the the bridge references kind of some paraphrasing of some lines from Hamlet, so I did like do a little brush up. But I just love the idea that like, ‘You you saved me from love driving me mad,’ right? ‘Cause that’s what happened to Ophelia. Spoiler alert. I mean…that’s also only kind of what happened to Ophelia. Sounds like she needed a more of a refresher after all lmao. Holocene 51
Some of the melodies feel way too familiar. Like, The Life of a Showgirl basically sounds like the Jonas Brothers’ Cool, and CANCELLED! is giving major Lorde Yellow Flicker Beat vibes. Maybe if her mind was full of scorpions like MacBeth then she might feel a little bad for releasing such a tepid album. 俺の勝利は揺るぎない

I automatically heard Cruel Summer chorus too. Actually, The life of a showgirl sounds like No air by Chris Brown and Jordin Sparks. MountainMonster 904
So… it’s not good. The only song I’d tolerate revisiting is The Life of Ophelia, and I’m not eager to hear it again. Was hoping for a return to bolder, poppier and more fun. Instead it’s still mostly mid tempo and melancholic.
MountainMonster 904
Also, in what way could Applause have possibly served any sort of inspiration for this album like people were speculating?
kimeow 467
yall.. i had high hopes for this album. i'm not a taylor fan now but i used to be back in the day. when she booted jack antonoff i thought finally, she's gonna take a risk and do something different. and its literally the same slop she'd been doing the past 4 years with maybe a little less synthpop. very disappointing and a waste of cool aesthetics/concept.
TheFrenchGuy 255
That album made me appreciate Gaga's production even more. I didn't think music could sound that bland 12 1

I am really disappointed in this album because I have always enjoyed her music. I am genuinely shocked at how much I did not like it.
