When she announced this album on the New Heights podcast, she said that when she connected with Max, he praised her on the lyricism on folklore. She went on to say that that its been a number of years since they worked together and she "honed her craft" more and that by working with them, she wanted a "perfectly curated" pop album that Max didn't want her to sacrifice the lyricism and Max to which she was delighted to hear, apparently. The take that it isn't "meant" to be deeply written and that this is an album with lyrics not to be taken seriously contradicts her direct words in that and even in promotional interviews she has done since release.
