If you live in Toronto or Vancouver anything under $25/h to $30/h is poverty if u live alone tbh

Is that before or after increase?

And I hate to say it but increasing salaries doesn't really work... I live in Luxembourg where salaries are automatically increased every time inflation hits 2.5%, and the only result is that stores increase their prices, landlords increase the rent etc...

Also in 2022, VAT was reduced by 1%, and studies showed that most stores increased their prices by 1%.

No matter what is done to help poor people, greedy corporations and rich people always find a way to take all the money back.

Meh, i dont think its true that it doesnt help at all. Were assuming a Dollar for Dollar increase but not everyone makes minimum wage which means cost of labor and doing business (and in turn cost of products) is not exclusively tied to minimum wage

 

If that was true inflation would stop if minimum wage didnt go up at all... Yet the US States that have increased minimum wages way slower than long term inflation have not prevented inflation... so u have ur Luxembourg example but theres examples in support of the exact opposite also

 

I think truth lies somewhere in the middle. Yes costs rise and some get passed down so there is a partial offset but its not dollar for dollar. The cost of every day goods has a lot more factors at play than just what the minimum wage is

 

Inflation will still occur without minimum wage increases. U cant just tell the lowest income earners they cant get a pay rise because ur trying to prevent a little bit of inflation. Then their real pay inflation adjusted will keep dropping even more
