If it was a single, Vanish Into You should've been submitted for SOTY as it might have higher chances at getting it than Abracadabra, which should definitely get ROTY. I think traditional pop is the only category —there's no performance or song category there, she could've submitted something from Harlequin for the Jazz performance category and other genre specific categories I hope Harlequin gets the Album cover Grammy... Laufey's album is making me nervous about Harlequin's chances... Jack3257 779 Posted October 4 Share Posted October 4 Tbh I am shocked by Gaga’s submissions. Vanish Into You felt like the clear contender for Pop Solo Performance from Mayhem, if not Abracadabra. Also, Happy Mistake not being submitted is insane to me. It’s easily the song that would impress voters the most for Pop Vocal (yes I know she can only submit one song, but are we saying her vocals aren’t the best on this song). I believe she could have grabbed both of those noms and one likely win (VIY), setting her up for a very historic night. But instead, given her submissions, there’s a chance she won’t even get nominated in pop solo with Disease. So I think she’ll end up with 2 less nominations and 1 less win than she would have earned. And why not at least TRY for pop duo?! You have to wonder how somebody of Gaga’s stature & her team makes decisions that the whole world seems to disagree with??? Disease is a better option on paper because it will be more familiar to the average voter than VIY, since it was a single. In the 2020s, only Bodyguard by Beyoncé managed to get nominated with a non-single album track, and I don't think VIY would have been a lock unless she releases it as a single soon. Also, Disease was well-received by critics upon its release, so they already know there's positive feedback on the song. Prob label thinking a solo single, even if not a smash, was a better suit than an album track that had no noise outside of the fanbase. Killah is a weird loophole cause despite having the word feat. is only officially "performed" (on Mayhem official booklet) by Gaga. There is no distinguished performance from Gesaffelstein in it, neither vocally or in instrumental and his contributions might relegated to his production, which is not what the category is about. We also have to consider that Grammys screening comittee, who oversees submissions to confirm theyre sent in the right category, might've disqualified it for the reasons above. We might never know. In terms of chances, you guys have to remember Gaga is one name among thousands in a ballot list so betting on singles overall is a more suitable task. Each artist has their own strategy but I don't think Gaga did nothing outrageous. I was also disappointed tho cause I love both VIY and Killah so much. Isn’t the more sensible question “you have to wonder why a vocal group of fans with little to no experience related to the Grammys - its process, politics, relationships, etc. - continue to question someone of Gaga’s stature and the people who support her?” As mentioned, singles are likelier to be nominated in Pop Solo, a category that typically rewards hits. Disease is unlikely to earn a nom, but a lead single which reached #17 on Pop Radio is a stronger candidate than an album track. VIY can still be submitted next year if MAYHEM doesn’t win and/or a live version is released. Killah was also already explained; had the screening committee deemed it ineligible, it would’ve been moved to another Pop category and potentially cost Abracadabra a nom due to vote-splitting in Best Pop Dance Recording.
