AVeryGagaHolyDick 26,231 Posted yesterday at 08:17 PM Share Posted yesterday at 08:17 PM I also wonder about her chances to score a Pop Duo/Group Performance. The nominated songs are usually singles, which Gaga’s isn’t. Who are the competitors in that category? Luther, probably, and then? (genuinely asking)
Ziggy 12,045
mayhem is definitely the closest, for sure. i mean, i think this is the buzziest album she's had since TFM (I don't count BTW bc it had pre-hype but kinda fell off). And this buzz has been solidly sustained throughout the year. Plus, the Grammy's loooove awarding a veteran act for "doing what everyone wants" on an album and Mayhem is that. It's everything Gaga is known for. The hits aren't as buzzy as past ones but that's not important imo because she's been a presence this year in the most important places. And it's an album that goes across MANY demographics unlike something like Brat (which in many ways was the biggest album last year even if sales weren't reflective of that) which also helps. It's Gaga at mass appeal. It's Gaga doing great Gaga music and kinda feels like the industry has been waiting to properly praise her after ASIB and Chromatica was a nice, solid album but not quite GAGA the way this one is. This feels like her cashing in on all the good will she's garnered over the last several years.

So ASIB could have been nominated and it would have been the following year after the huge cultural moment. I think the grammys saw it as old at that point and didn't have enough passion to nominate it. The following year it won best soundtrack, best song for visual media, and gaga got a SOTY nomination for ARUTW I remember but Shallow deserved to win SOTY + ROTY and I feel like it could've done so if it had a bit more time to show its impact - iirc it went #1 only a couple weeks after the Grammys, with the Oscar win. They tried to make it up with SOTY nom for ARUTW and (rightfully) giving the soundtrack many awards next year - but it still more than deserved an AOTY nom imo. Anyway it all feeds into Gaga's overdue narrative so maybe it all worked out for the best. LFS winning AOTY would kinda suck looking back, as it would be more of a lifetime achievement award for Tony instead of rewarding Gaga's impact and staying power as a musician and performer, which is what MAYHEM's campaign is built upon. I think we'll see if it'll beat GMX for good when the noms are out. Kendrick will get all field noms possible, but MAYHEM getting technical categories (best package, cover, video, engineering, producer noms for Watt/Cirkut) would make the difference. She may as well bag 9-10+ noms this year, which is a crazy achievement on its own. Is there some reason my LG7 isn't here? Has she died or something? Monstermilo 4,794
i feel like mayhem is her best shot cuz the competition is not as strong this year....TF and TFM shouldve won her way more grammys.
